My 22mo DD has gotten interested in the toilet and potty lately after seeing her 2.5 yo cousin using both. She did a wee in the potty at a friend's place last week and will follow me to the toilet and insist on flushing it and washing her hands when I do. She'll sit on the toilet and not do anything and use toilet paper to "pat pat" dry. But all these things are very scarce/random atm.
Here I am again! Buster has not long turned 2 and is showing real interest in the toilet. Haven't pulled the potty back out as he seems more receptive to the big boy toilet, likes to be like his big brother. This is all new to me as Moo never really showed any interest, but Buster actually asks to go to the toilet now. He hasn't done anything but it's a great start!
We went nappy free again today. Lots of misses. But I expect that.
Once you teach them to go on the pot do you have to re teach the big loo?
TT, I think it's more of an adjustment going from the potty to toilet rather than actually having to teach them.
I sent DS2 to child care in undies today! First time ever... along with about 4 changes of clothes just incase lol

I started about that age with DS T, but it took us about 12months, so I guess he wasn't really ready. Once he got it, he just got it.
Dd TTed herself lol. One day she wore nappies, the next she didn't.
I have no idea really. I've tried all the theories, but I think it's just a case of them 'getting' it.
Ww leave dd2s nappy off a lot, partly because it's hot, and partly because she won't stay dressed lol.
I caught a poo! Small but still a poo! Amazing what getting her to sit on the pot while 'daisy' is on will do =p
TT'ing DS at the moment he is nearly 2.5 - have been on and off for a while - I find it difficult to do while I am at work (DD was 2 and I was off work having DS so seemed easier). Wee's he seems to pretty much get, today haven't had any accidents and he has taken himself a couple of times too. But have zero luck with poo's - he always just does it whether in a pull up, naked or in clothes, so that is holding me back a bit, as if he has a pull-up on he will often wee in it, but I am not keen on going anywhere and having to deal with changing poo clothes - and I can't send him to child care without a pull up knowing in all likelihood he will just poo himself. In Feb he will be permanently in the bigger room at daycare where they have some children already toilet trained, so hopefully he will take to it there as will want to be like the bigger boys and girls.
He is happy on potty or on toilet but finds it difficult to get onto toilet with the seat himself, at daycare he will like the little toilets. Also with the toilet with the kids seat on it it seems if not really careful and make sure sat right back and holding penis down it pokes out front of seat and goes everywhere - seems odd to me - almost seems like the hole in the seat is not deep enough?
We just had first poo on potty!! And he took himself!! Woop woop :)

So our nudie rude keeps going, lots more misses. Basically all I'm doing it when she is doing a wee I grab her sit her on the pot and say 'wees go on the pot'.. Not sure if she has clued on yet.
She has been off all morning, we were at playgroup and she spent the whole time crying, we left early and on the way home she kept saying sore, and i tried to work out what was sore, she did point to her belly sometimes. So I thought ?maybe she has a sore belly? It could just be the heat making her cranky.
We got home, did nudie rude again, and I spotted her doing a little wee so grabbed her to sit her on the pot but she was fighting me, and going sore! And crying, I got her to sit and asked if wees are sore, and then noticed she was doing a poo. So I don't know if it sore, or was just the feeling of doing it was uncomfortable for her...
I did get a poo on the pot tho!
How is everyone going? Ee don't seem to be msking any advancements. ..still just wees anywhere. .
One thing I have achieved tho is learning some poo signs! And I actually picked up she was about to do a poo and got her nappy off and held hrr on the loo and she did it in there! We dont have a seat for it tho..so she wasnt comfortable. Is it worth getting one? A friend has a built in one as part of her toilet seat, was pretty funky.
I have seen cool ones at Bunnings where the toddler toolet set lifts up into lid when not needed. unfortunately it didn't fit my toilet, cos they are more sturdy than the add on ones.
ds is keen to nude up,but not quite into wees on the toilet. have had a few poos on toilet,but only one wee so far. not pushing it at.all at the.moment, just.going with the flow.
dd has been day since 2.5 yrs, but still wears pull up at night. we have had couple dry nights lately, which is very exciting. making sure she 'tries' to wee before bed has made big difference. on dry mornings, she has run for loo in the morning. wonder if on other gays, she knows it is wet so wees again or is only weeing on wake up.
I think that is the one my friend had. You lift the seat, the adult one stays down, and the toddler one is in the lid, so you use it you just pull it down. It looked very solid because it was porcelain (or whatever loos are made out of) and all built in.
I d want to push Spock, I'm worried she will get an aversion and my pushing too hard will make her scared and fight it....

Hello, thought I'd pop in, DD recently turned two, loves sitting on the toilet hasn't yet connected it with actually going to the toilet except the other day when she did a big wee! Yay! But it may have been random as she still runs away to avoid a dirty nappy being changed and this morning after doing a poo undid her nappy (which I didn't notice as she still had her jimjams on) and when I asked her if she had done a poo on account of the free for all smell, my girl who usually says yes or no honestly and straight away, said no!
Anyway I am so clueless, I don't even know what the signs of readiness are. Is there a sticky or article someone can point me to? Astrolady's sticky on TT information does not click through...
I'm going to jump in here too. Little Miss E who is almost 20 months has decided nappies are for babies. She is amazing, she recognises the urge to wee so she takes herself to the potty, does what she has to do then comes to me saying "hands, hands" so that I can wash her hands. I think she is probably getting it right about 80 - 90% of the time without any pushing from me so I am in awe! Not quite so successful with poo, its like she can't quite tell when its finished so jumps up then poos on the floor a few minutes later. I'm thinking I need to get her some knickers and just bite the bullet and let her wear them rather than nappies but I'm so scared of going out and her peeing in the middle of a shop or something ;)
Ladylove - E started saying "wee, wee" and looking anxious when she had gone in her nappy, then one day during bare bum time, she just sat herself on the potty and went. Came running to us saying "wee, wee" and lo and behold, wee in the potty. We've had potties sitting out on the floor for about a month now so that they could get used to just sitting on them whenever they wanted.
DD is used to and loves sitting on the big toilet but even with a step she cannot get herself up there by herself. She can climb on but not sort of twist herself around the open hole to get into position. I didn't want to use a potty though.
Ps since the first toilet wee she had done two more! babe #2 is due in a few weeks though so I'm not keen to push / accelerate TT right now.
my ds is similar with the step. he can do it, but it is awkward and in a rush it's no good.:
I think my dd just ditched the ladder/seat early and used a step and perched on the seat. I saw great inbuilt toddler seat at Bunnings but it didn't fit our loo.
Has he continued with this? DS sounds very like your DS2 - he is fine with wee's and uses toilet all day at daycare, but have only managed one poo on potty ever. Home or daycare he just won't go on toilet or potty - he knows he shouldn't do it and always apologieses but makes no attempt to get to the toilet. I have sent him to daycare in undies a few times, if he doesn't need a poo he is fine, but he has just poo'd in his undies a couple of times, and I don't really think is fair on them to have to deal with that. (Especially as he does the biggest poos they have ever seen! apparently :-)):
:leap: POO! ON THE TOILET! Without me asking her if she needed to go! I didn't even know she was on the toilet until she called out for help wiping!!!! I'm so happy, can you tell?

So E is almost 21 months. With a bare bum, she is awesome, rarely has an accident and just takes herself to the potty often. With pants or training pants not quite so much success. She is such an independent little thing and if she has something on her bum, I don't know if it's because she assumes it's a nappy or because she is only just developing the coordination to attempt to undress herself, she has accidents. I'm fine with bare bum at home but can't do this so much at daycare and I don't want her to regress from what she has achieved so far. She is pretty good at telling me that she needs to go but any suggestions for little miss independence?
I feel very jealous of everyone success, as my DS is 3 in a month and wont go near the toilet. Every time I ask or try to take him, he says no and has a tanty.
He doesn't want to wear his nappies as they are two small and they are the largest disposals I can get. He is over a metre tall and over 25kilos..... a big boy.
I really don't know where to start or how to change his mind about the toilet. He is too big to sit on a potty..
any advice or hints of articles I could ready would be great.
Having trouble getting ds to sit on the potty or toilet as they are "too cold". Will we in the shower though and on the garden outside.
I got toilet seat covers/warmers off eBay last year to get over this one (about 2 for $5 I think). Managed to not use them over summer (had one die on me) but DS1 is starting to complain about the cold seat again :wall: might have to get some more again:

I need to do something too, DS is three next month and won't poo anywhere but nappy or underpants etc, he will do wees on potty occasionally at home and uses toilet at daycare for wees, and I think that if was in undies would get the wee thing quick, but can't cope with poo in pants everyday and couldn't do that at daycare anyway. I have tried bribery etc but to no avail, he knows the talk, "I am a big boy and big boys wear undies" but just won't poo on potty or toilet. I am sure he knows when is going to as he takes himself off somewhere usually. He used to always tell you straight away when he had done a poo in his nappy, but since starting trying to TT he doesn't, and lets it squelch out all over unless you smell it quick, which is harder for them at daycare and I feel bad they have to clean him up. His friends at daycare are toilet trained, I thought that would help but hasn't. He is nearly always dry overnight and will wee in morning.
I feel the same about DD TT40.
Maybe its a 'there will be a new baby soon' thing
Wysiwyg we found DS1 just "got it" one day right before 3. We didn't even try until he said he wanted to wear undies. Boys seem to need to be a bit older. He sounds like he's pretty normal??

Wysiwig, same as OP my DS one day just decided to wear undies, and he's been dry and clean day and night since then - obviously a couple of accidents in between.
Frustratingly we had been trying for 4 months and getting no where, lots of tears, anger, frustration of him just not getting it - so we stopped talking about it, went into nappies full time again (had been doing, pull ups, training pants, undies and nappies in that 4months) and after 2 weeks he came and asked for undies and we haven't looked back!
He got an m&m for a wee on the toilet, and gummi bear for a poo and a chuggington train for staying dry and clean all day.
She is 2 yr and 3ish weeks

When dd1 was around 2 i thought she was ready to be toilet trained as she told us when she needed a change but when we started she was scared of the toilet even though we bought every mini toilet seat thing there was.
I didnt pressure her until a few months shy of 3 yrs old she decided nappies were for babies and never wore nappies day and night.
Dd2 tells us when she poos and wees but im in no rush to get her out of nappies until she feels shes lazy (and secretly i find nappies heaps easier than rushing them to the toilet and cleaning puddles :O)
Tt40 she is still little. Don't stress yourself too much
Hi joining in here ds is 2.5 in undies all day at daycare and mostly stays dry and poo free but home is another issue h and I have been so busy we haven't been doing it at home also have the added inconvenience of no toilet downstairs and dd (1) always tries to pull ds off the potty and stick her hands in it still a few teething problems figuring out toilet training in the new house ds has also only just started talking so another reason we haven't pushed toilet training were in the mindset we won't push but we've changed him to cloth nappies so we no longer have to buy nappies for him which also takes some pressure off getting him trained quicker and then well just use them for dd anyway after he's toilet trained
DD is almost 2 and a half years and not inclined to TT at all. She very happily wees on the toilet but only if we initiate it and will never say she needs to go or is wet/has done it (still in nappies). She won't poo on the toilet and hates her dirty nappy being changed so will hide the fact she has done one. We haven't done any nappy free time.
DD (20.5 months) is sitting on the loo reading at the mo. She started showing an interest about 4 weeks ago and was getting upset when I sat on the loo because she wanted a turn. We had great success with the first 2 weeks then took a break for 2 weeks because she decided she didn't want to use the loo but we are back to it this week. We are thinking of it as toilet learning, just like any other area of her learning. I feel like it takes the pressure off. We are in no hurry for her to get into undies so we are just following her lead and interest at the mo. Its about offering the loo at certain times for us at the mo. She's quite comfortable to do wee and poo on the loo but in the morning she takes her time and we only have one loo so I've resorted to using the potty to wee in a few times!
So we are having some success with DD using the toilet. when I put her on it, she always does a wee and sometimes a poo. She's not telling me when she needs to go so I'm not sure about undies yet, especially as we are looking for a new FDC educator and that will be enough change for now. Have any of you transitioned your LO to undies before they are asking to use the loo? DD has the ability to hold on, even in the morning if I use the loo right before her she can hold and wait to go.
Ideas?
