Toilet Training General Chatter

FF - I used to wait no longer than two hours and then take DD. whatever she was doing, I'd stop her and say toilet time. Now she can sometimes go up to four hours between wees but that's ok because I know she can do it now. In those early days, not so trusting!!

Also watch out for signs - DD has a wee dance, if she's getting really into something she may try to ignore the urge, but I can always tell when she's doing the wee dance! Jiggles up and down. So I'll ask her and she will most times say "no" but then take herself a minute or so later. Miss Independence!!!!

Leckert I'm sorry I don't know :( We thankfully didn't have that issue with DD.

This is gross but if he is wearing nothing on the bottom I can tell of he is going to wee by how his penis looks. A useful life skill I think!

I might buy an egg timer or something. I think he'd like the drama of a bell and that being toilet time.

I didn't even bother with a timer, just watched my own watch.

we have the potty in the back room (laminated floors, FTW!!) and we have a *bunch* of books next to the potty, and DH has devised a seated soccer game they play wile he poos. DS, not DH ;)

we take a trip there around every meal, plus after the bath/shower, and mid morning and afternoon.

we still use nappies the rest of the time ... have tried knickers for two stints, but he's just not ready yet ...

So here's my debrief from yesterday... We did ok.

I set up an alarm on my phone so that when it went off it was "TOILET TIME!!!" He quite enjoyed the fun of this and so off we went. Two proper wees on the toilet all day although he did get a few drops out at other times because he was there. When he did have an accidents (about 5 of them I think) he knew what was happening and ran to me straight away and off we went to the toilet. I think that either he doesn't quite recognise that his body wants to do a wee or is too busy playing so doesn't pay attention. Either way, I think that the accidents are part of learning and at least he's not wetting and then ignoring.

Poo was fantastic! He yells out "mummy, the POO IS COMING OUT!!" We all race to the toilet and get the end of it in the toilet. He loved that it was in there and enjoyed flushing. We then rang everyone to tell them.

Much praise all round when things went right and not a big fuss when he wet himself.

Here's some questions:

- What should I do in the car at this early stage?
- Do I need to hang around at home until we are accident free? I'm not sure I'm brave enough to go out tomorrow arvo without a nappy on. We would generally go to the zoo. Put on a nappy or just keep up with the program?

Starting to ramp up the toilet training with DD2 as she's quite interested in doing what DD1 does.
Wee's are all good and we've only had about 2 accidents with wee's in the last week.
She is in knickers basically the whole time she's home now but has been asking for nappies at times and she wears them when we go out.

She had an accident with a poo the other day and was quite upset but seems ok at realising when she needs to go & trying to hold on until she gets to the toilet (prefers the toilet to the potty).

I did want to ask though DD'1 is fully TT'd and has no issues overnight or anything but HOW do i teach her to wipe her bum, he arms just don't seem long enough and i'm just not sure where to start. :rofl:

Just came in to brag :lol: ds1 did his first poo on the potty on his own accord - I thought he was just doing a wee as he does and he popped out the poo. Rang DH who was out but he didn't answer so rang FIL to tell him and made a big deal out of it. DH rang back just after we finished talking to FIL and that was exciting :) now DH has to go buy ds a truck sticker book and a Chugga one (if there is one; plain Chugga book if there isn't one) tomorrow

We need to get our bums into gear, and start actively using undies again.

DD2 is getting there, she just woke up, cried at the bottom of the stairs do I took her to the toilet & now she's back in bed :dance: no wetting the bed.

Random accidents during the day but otherwise going well.
Going to finish the nappies we have then buy pull-ups for days out & stick with knickers at home.

DD2 went all day (including a 2hr+ trip in the car, watching basketball & driving around town) in knickers

She's now in bed at Dads in knickers too, hope she doesn't set the bed on the fold out couch... Lol.
So proud of her!

Will put a pull-up in her tomorrow night at dinner though.
