I have bought a potty and a training toilet seat for Natalie for TT (I was thinking in summer would be best). The training toilet seat has pictures of Thomas on it, so she likes it a lot.
Occasionally she says she wants to sit on the toilet, or wants to wee on the toilet. So I sit her on it, but she never does.
I have a 2mo baby and was keen to wait a few more months before we tackled TT with Natty. She was definitely not ready before P was born, but her communication skills are now a lot better. Given her interest in the toilet, I wonder if I should just buy some knickers and give it a red hot go? (Even though she's only ever weed or pooed in a nappy...) Or perhaps her fascination is just the novelty of the seat, and I should wait until summer? I really don't feel up to cleaning up lots of puddles of wee when I'm rather exhausted with a young baby, but I also want to do the right thing by N and encourage her.
What would/did you do?
If she wants to have a go then don't hold her back for later JIC it works out. There is nothing wrong with trying and going back to nappies if it's the wrong time. I'm a big believer in waiting till they are ready anyway. When they are ready it is so easy.
C recently decided that he was and 3 weeks later he has only had a couple of accidents. I tried him a couple of months ago and all he did was pee on the floor all day We have a couple of options. Both toilet seat and potty and he uses what ever one takes his fancy at the time.

id give it a go
we tried with Dd about 3 months ago she wasnt ready.
she shows alot of interest in teh toilet and knows what wee and poo are and tells us after she does a poo now and knows when she has done a wee.
we will try again in a couple of weeks. hardest part for us is getting her into a routine as she is at school 4 days a week
I would let her keep sitting on the toilet/using the toilet and keep her in nappies. Ask her if she needs a wee/wants to try when she wakes up or before her bath. I prefer a more gradual adjustment than putting undies on straight away and then worrying about accidents.
Thanks heaps for your responses. I think we will keep going the way we are for a couple of months. Now it's starting to get warmer, so I'll wait til she's in shorts and dresses I think (and when I'm not feeding Phoebe and/or settling her for a nap all day long, LOL!). In a few weeks we might go and make a big deal about buying some pretty knickers.
Thanks again.
I was in the same situation as you, we have gotten DD used to using the toilet she was doing really well and then fell off while trying to get off on her own so she freaked out for a few weeks. She moved up a room at daycare and a lot of the toddlers are going to the toilet so she is shoiwng an interest again. We have got her a seat with a ladder and she isn't so scared of sitting on the toilet now. She is in the pull up pants and is telling me when she needs to go to have a wee. she forgets with her poo but today she let me take her as soon as she started and we finished on the loo.
I think I will put her in knickers in a couple of weeks.
