What kinds are there? - Ok, there are different types of nappies, and then HEAPS of different brands. You have your pick from All in ones, all in 2's, pockets, fitteds (which need covers), prefolds (for wee bubs), flats etc
How do I choose which ones to use? Completely up to you which option you think would work best for your family. I started out hating the thought of fitteds (because they need a cover) but absolutely love them now. They have their place.
What do you do with the poo? Chuck it in the toilet if its solid, use a squirt thing (hanging next to the toilet) to wash off the not so solid ones.
How do I wash them? In the washing machine LOL.. sorry. You dry pail them, which means, you throw them in a bucket with nothing else in it and then wash every couple of days. I was every 2nd day, and I think thats good enough. I do a pre-rinse with cold water, and then a wash with warm water.
Is there anything else I need to know? Probably lots... LOL... start researching, asking questions, checking ones out on the net and ASK QUESTIONS
The best place to start is to take a look at the Australian Nappy Network website
They have all sorts of fantastic info up there for you to start with.
There are sooo many MCNs out there, it is really a matter of trying as many as you can and finding ut which ones work or dont work for your bubba.
Look around lots before you buy anything.
Come over to the cloth nappy discussion thread for websites to check out...A lot depends on your budget and how often you want to wash.
With regard to washing and poo; the poo goes straight into the toilet (NB poo can just get rinsed or go straight in the washing machine) and the nappy into a nappy bucket (no soaking, bleach, chemicals involved ever). When you are ready to wash, just pop them in the wash with bi carb soda, nothing or about 1/2 the usual amount of washing powder. Normal cycle plus a rinse before or after. Easy as!
Anyway, hope that helps a little...cant type more - I have a 18month old attached to my hip lol
Im sure the girls will be along to add to it anyway
