I'm making AIO's ATM so this is what I'm doing.
~ flanelette inner, hidden flanelette internal layer with 3 layer bamboo booster, I use either MM fleece or a hidden PUL layer with minky or microfleece outer layer.
I have also made inners of bamboo velour!
I also make a lay in booster from bamboo covered with flannel that co-ordinates with the inner :)
Thanks FJ and Sam! Interesting to hear. I have another question! Where is a good place to buy windpro MMF?
I actually keep an eye out for it on Ebay & Buy for baby. But you can also get cuts of it from online stores. I think Missy moos os one place that stocks MM fleece.
You can google the Windpro.
I love my rotary cutter. Are there different sorts? Mine is like a pizza cutter and I use it for my whole pattern (HB). As long as it's sharp it's super easy to use on curves :)
well I bought 2 cutting boards from the reject shop today. LOL now i just need a good rotary cutter.
How did you go with this Kaz?
I was thinking, meant to post this days ago. That maybe you have put all the same side on. So you have all prongs or all sockets rather then sockets across the front & prongs along your wings. KWIM? Hope that didn't seem like I was stating the obvious but just thought with the metal snaps it might be harder to tell which is which KWIM?
Ta Fiona :D
Naw, I can get them to work on bibs, just not the nappies? It's weird hey. Will take them to the weewuns to get them plastic snappied :D
My g/f who came to the meet is now all fired up to sew, and she's got an overlocker! woOHOOO!
So we'll have some sewing days! Can't wait!
Hey how much at the snap presses worth these days?
you can get a snap press with size 20 dies & 4 sets of snaps for $120 at snaps australia.
With the metal snaps not working on your nappies but they do on the bibs, I bet the problem is too many layers on the nappies for the metal snaps to handle.
Ok ladies I'm about to start cutting my small honeyboys and I wanted your advice. Should I use the bamboo fleece as the inner, or just as the soaker layers? I suppose just using it as the soaker layers is more economical but the bamboo fleece is so soft and snuggly...
The problem you will have is when you try to close the gap it will be waaaaaaay to thick to sew through and probably won't fit under your presser foot. Don't forget the MM fleece is quite bulky.
I found this out the hard way and ended up making a real hash of it so had to cut it back.
Use flanelette for the hidden layer and sew your booster to that.
Have you joined the honeyboy home sewing yahoo group yet? The address is in the back of your pattern instruction book. The is a brilliant set of pictures there.
ETA I re read your post and are you saying you want to use it instead of a flannel inner? I still think it would be too bulky because when you close it don't forget it's really double the fabric you sew through because they are folded over at the end.
Yeah, instead of the flanelette inner... but what youa re saying makes sense, because the machine battles through the layers as it is. I have a PUL layer too, and my outers are micropolar (for aesthetics, not function). But its still quite thick. I might just sub in the bamboo fleece where the towelling went in the NB and see how that goes.
Haven't joined the Honeyboy group because you have to join Yahoo groups for it... I've just never gotten around to it.
Hello ladies.
Now that I have my bamboo fleece (stupid post office had it sitting there for 2 weeks before they told me) and its all washed... now I can make something with it! Its very excitng. DH just doesnt understand the excitingness of bamboo fleece.
I was thinking of making boosters out of it. Do i just use the fleece and make it into a booster shape, or do I have to put it with something else to make it work better?
Depends! Do you want a booster that lays on top, closest to bub's bum? Cos then a stay dry layer like microfleece could be fun. If you want it for pocket stuffing though, I'd go just bamboo!
How about some bamboo trifolds, easier to sew through less layers of bamboo, and can be folded how you like?
Have you ever seen an Ecobubs insert? It's like a trifold with hemp (I think it's hemp) and microfibre. I think just one layer of each - very thirsty, but the microfibre layer means it's quicker drying than an all bamboo trifold! Clever. Makes me want to order some microfibre.
Some people also use flannel but on the inner of the booster. or you can use fleece on the ouside if you want pattern ones
ETA- how many layers of bamboo would you use if you were doing a microfleec outer
thanks :)
I use mainly pockets, so its most liekly going to be stuffed into the pocket. She wees for Australia so I just wanted to have some extra boosters to add it with the normal inserts I use.
So how many layers of bamboo should I use for it?
And would I use the furry side for the outside or the inside of the booster, or it doesnt matter?
Can you still buy flannel in SL or would it all be gone by now?
Is tri fold the one where its a square shape and you fold it into thirds?
Flannel is def still avaliable in spot light!!!!!
spotlight sale finishes today I think ....
Oh poo about the sale finishing. I cant be bothered to go today!
No worries, I still have some PINK flannel here. Its cute.
I know, tomorrow is the first chance I'll have in ages to go, and the sale will be over! Maybe I can wait til the next one, tis not like Spotters never have sales.
For boosters 3 layers is great. Nice and thirsty but doesn't take too long to dry. Nelles suggestion of a trifold is a great idea too :) Karina you've got it spot in that's what a trifold is!
I still do 3 layers with a fleece topper or with flanelette to co-ordinate with the nappy inner.
I finished off that nappy I started at Melbels place. You know the chocolate dot minky one that I didn't concerntrate on and sewed a deco tab on back to front :cryinglaugh:
Only took me 2 months or so to get motivated enough to unpick the ruddy thing. I so hate unpicking!
 well done sammi!!! pictures please!!!
now dumb question, can you buy minky nappy cuts with the laminated backing?????/
Fairy Fabrics
cool thanks fiona!!!
yummmy
I uploaded some pics of Caleb wearing the dot minky nappy that I started making as Mels meetup last year.
Warning: very unco-operative boy!

Hey, they're not bad shots for an uncooperative kid Sammi! Great to see the nappy finished, the minky looks great! Hidden PUL?
Yup hidden PUL between the soaker layer and the minky, the same as bubble bubs ;)
looks great Sam!
Do spotlight sell PUL or do you have to get it from specialty places?
Spotters don't as far as I know (I doubt they know what it is), so it tends to be specialty nappy making stores. Lucky there's a few of them around!
OK here is another nappy finished :D I imposed on Melbel today and borrowed her snap press. Thanks Mel!

Love the stars :D
Looking great Sammi! I love the stars too!
Ooh nice napsters there Sammi! Lol, I still haven't done any more work on that butterfly I started at Mels.....I'm such a slack tart (as my mother would say)!
re. nappy flannel at SL, I find it stretches too much for my liking adn whilst I haven't used it just for flats/prefolds, I would think it's a bit thin? I'm comparing it to the flanny flats I got from Myer (?) though, that stuff is super thick. The squares with teh blue line along two edges. Exactly teh same flannels that my mum used on me (which are still alive adn kicking!).
ooo its so cute, did you use a commercial pattern or is it one of your own?
Haha, yep Cat, mum made sure I got the flats with the blue lines too! :p Think we got ours from Baby Bunting - not cheap though! Reckon the Spotters stuff would be okay for little ones though, due to the more frequent nappy changes - we'll see hey!
I have a question about the star snaps. Would they cause the material to rip easier seems there is a point on it. I just wonder if the material around the points of the star would be weakened each time you pulled the nappy off KWIM??
skittlebub it's made with the Very Baby AIO pattern :)
ETA FJ I don't think they would rip moreso being star shaped. The edges aren't sharp, they are rounded a bit. Also with round snaps you need to take them off with a certain degree of care or else they will rip the fabric too.
Damn it's DEAD in here!
I'll be a sewin' this weekend :D Anyone else care to join me?
Would love too... I have a BRAND NEW overlocker and I have NO IDEA how to use it!! LOL I've had it here for a few days and I dare not touch it! LOL
