    Eye Test Question

Ok so this has been on my mind for a couple of weeks now.
A lady came into my work with her grand daughter who was born premmie. She told me that they were going to get the childs eyes tested that day because she was premmie and they really should have been tested before she turned 2 years old.

Does anyone know if this is true and why do they need to be tested?

I'm asking because my DS was also premmie but nobody has mentioned this to me. My DS is 19 months old so should I be booking him in for a test? And does anyone know if a regular optometrist can test a toddler or do I need to find 1 who specialises in testing littlies?

    Thanks in advance

How premature was Sage? We had Sam's eyes checked out, but it was for another issue, not for his prematurity (only 36 weeks so not that bad). I think they really only worry about eyes for premies if they have been on oxygen. Could be wrong, though. A friend of mine also had a baby born at 36 weeks and they also didn't need to get his eyes checked at all due to prematurity.

I have no idea about premmies etc, but for what it is worth I have been wearing glasses since I was 11months old and I had the same opthamologist from about 18 months to 15...so I dont think you would need special one, just one who knows does kids usually.

BW Sage was also born at 36 weeks as was this little girl I was talking about.

I think I might give our Paed a call tomorrow and see what he suggests

Ok so I called our Paed today and we don't need to worry about getting Sage's eyes tested. Its only for bubs who weigh less than 2kg's at birth and arrive very early. So now I can put this one behind me

    Glad you got it sorted

Brendan's were tested regularily in the first year and yearly until he is 6(then it gets re-evaluated). Two reasons, he was less than 2kg and he was on oxygen for a few days after birth.
