    Beanie sizes for premature babies

    Hi Guys,

I want to crochet some beanies for the hospital. Can someone give me the size of the beanie when flattened down length and width and is baby soft acrylic ok or it needs to be 100% cotton?

    Thanks in advance.

Depends how little you want to make them I guess.
    DS1 had a HC of 28.5cm at 30+1 weeks.
    DS2 had a HC of 33cm at 34+3 weeks.

DD's HC was 29cm at birth (34+1 weeks) - I didn't get to keep any of the beanies that she wore in hospital so I can't measure it for you but I can tell you they were still big and had the seam rolled up a few times.

I probably wouldn't make too many little ones, depending on the NICU, but my bubs didn't wear beanies until out of NICU and into SCN. A lot of bubs spend a long time on CPAP which has it's own little hat.

    I hope that helps x

I should clarify that DD was only in the SCN, not NICU - I think there are different rules and regulations for what can be worn in NICU.

I think the nurse must have meant SCN too because she said 30 cms and up and there will be babies that are big sizes and not just premmies.

    Thanks ladies!
