I just wanted to pop in & say "Hi" to everyone as this is my first post. Carrie, has Kyla tried Cruskits at all? My bub (ex 28 weeker) has done exactly the same thing - she used to gag on anything but absolute puree, often making herself ill. Sooo frustrating. I tried the Tommee Tippee mesh feeding purse with mixed results, but good old Cruskits really helped! I think it's because they crumble down to nothing so it's easy for them to swallow, but still exercising the chewing muscles. It took a few weeks of practice & now she is transitioning to combination finger food/puree & totally bypassing lumps & mashed foods. She is 11 months corrected now (14 months real time). Just a thought in case it might help you.
-
Hi there Beebee, and welcome to premmie mums!! Phew - it's nice to meet someone with the same problem!
I'm a bit scared to try something like crusket yet as she doesn't actually chew yet - just pokes her tongue in and out to get it down. Kyla is 9 months corrected. What age did you try the cruskets? Was she already chewing?
-
Hi Beebee, Welcome to Premmie Mums!
OMG, Carrie only 4 days to go until Kyla is one!!!!!! Where has that time gone? It only seems like the other day I was reading your announcement in the birth announcements!
-
Thank you for the welcome Premmie mums!
Carrie, I tried Chiara on Cruskits at 9 1/2 months (corrected) & she learned to bite and chew with them. Initially she only sucked on the corners until it turned to mush - but she swallowed it and continues to enjoy them. We were considering sending her to see a Speech Pathologist for swallowing assessment because we were so concerned. The MCN had said just give her lumpy foods & when she is hungry enough she will eat! The thought of our poor, skinny little baby hungry & not being able to swallow just didn't sit well with us. We saw the Paed shortly afterwards & she recommended a high calorie diet (gotta love that!)& purees until she is ready to move on. So that's where Chiara is at - lots of Cruskits, introducing finger foods & still on purees. Carrie, I believe Kyla will let you know when she is ready for anything extra. Maybe her tummy isn't up to digesting more advanced food yet? Hang in there.
Tiff, congratulations on the twins' milestones! It's ever sooo sweet, especially after their bumpy start.
-
Hey Tiff! I'm here, I'm here! I've been MIA for a little while due to having a sick little boy (gastro!:( ) and then being away for a few days up your way. (Well, sort of - we were in Newcastle). But, Josh is better now, thank goodness and I'm back on board. My little fella is doing great. He has been on a feeding frenzy (for the first time in his life) since his recovery from the gastro and is doing lots of great stuff - standing and walking along the lounges etc. He turns one next weekend!
It sounds like Ivy & Noah are certainly coming into their own. Teeth, sitting, rolling. WTG bubbas! I really hope the new paed works out for you too.
Nic...Josh didn't have a bottom for ages either! When we took him to the paed for his 6 week check up, the paed told him he needed to grow one! But, I am very proud to say that he has a very nice little bottom now! ;)
A big hello to everyone else too. I will try to pop back in soon for more personals.
And welcome to BellyBelly & Premmie Mums, Beebee! :)
-
Happy First Birthday Kyla!!!!!:happybirthday:
Hope you had a wonderful day!
Happy birthing day Carrie  hope your day was full of special memories.
-
Bec,
Sorry to hear that little Josh has been sick (bloody gastro)!
I can't believe that he is going to be one soon!!!!!!!!!
You are very norty for not coming to visit ME!:p Hope you had a nice break!
If you are ever in the neighbourhood again, would love to meet you!
Nic,
We found out about the group when we went for the assessment. It's just through our local early intervention centre.
It IS a great little group, it has some premmies and some babies with developmental delays. There are NO expectations and everyone cheers everyone's baby on - there is NO competition. I love it - went there today.
Ivy cut her first tooth yesterday and then didn't sleep for the WHOLE night. Noah is exhausted! Hehe, poor boy was kept up by her majesty (if she couldn't sleep then HE wasn't allowed to either:rolleyes: ) She is asleep at the moment and he is grumbling on the mat.
Not much else to report, hope everyone is doing well.
-
:confetti: HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY KYLA!! :confetti:
Hope you are all having a lovely day, Carrie!
Tiff, I would love to meet you too! We are actually up in Newcastle a bit as my dad lives there. (And it is a good half-way point for meeting up with my mum too as she lives up Port Macquarie way). I actually lived there for a couple of years too before I moved to Sydney. I lived in Newcastle for a while & Nelson Bay for a while. So anyway, my point is yep, we will have to arrange to meet up one time when we are up there! :)
The group you are going to sounds great. I love the fact that everyone is encouraging and there is no competition. Yay for Ivy's first tooth! The no sleeping, not so good! Poor Noah! I can just imagine him doing this......at Ivy and her antics!
Well, had better run, I'm working tonight and have to cook some dinner before I go...
Hi to all!
-
Happy First Birthday Kyla! :happyforyou:
Tiff - Poor little Ivy getting a tooth! Poor Noah being Mr Grumble Bum.. :( I have to say i am not looking forward to the teething time.. Has Noah got any teeth himself yet?
Bec - I hope everything is well with you and your beautiful family?
Well Ronan is still sleeping 8/10hrs at night so nothing has changed there but his weigh day is on Thursday (two weekly appts now instead of weekly) so im really hoping he's put on the grams, i always stress about his weight even though he's now formula fed..
I am starting a mother group on Thursday as well, it's a preemie mothers group for mums around the Knox council so i am really looking forward to that, only i am a little nervous.. :D
-
-
Hey Rac!
OMG, wanna swap babies???? 8 -10 hours ay night???? I can't even get Ivy to sleep 8 - 10 minutes!!!!!! Ronan sounds SO cute and I love the photo in his ticker!
I know how stressful all the weigh ins and check ups are. I bet he'll be fine. You are such a great Mum, how could he have NOT put on the grams? GL and let us know how much he's put on.
To answer your question, Yes, Noah has two teeth. The first one cut while he was in hospital and the second just popped through about a week later.
Understand about the mother's group. I am terrible at the best of times getting out and about and a mother's group is enough to send me shaking in a corner BUT once you make that first leap, it gets easier. They'll love you and Ronan.
Bec - Cool Can't wait! How was work? I can't imagine working in the police force...
Not long now to Josh's birthday.
I think Ella is next in our little group and then Josh.
All these birthday bubs!
-
Congratulations Kyla and happy labour day Carrie!
-
HI all.
Thanks for all your well wishes for Kyla's birthday! Sorry, I've been offline for a few days as we had a BIG weekend. My sister and her 2 boys were over from Adelaide and staying with us which was great and we had a HUGE birthday and Baptism celebration on Sunday which was great but tiring.
Kyla was an angel on her B'day and did so well - it's been a very busy few days. She also got lots of lovely pressie's and has been enjoying playing with her new toys.
Tiff- Yay on Ivy's 1st tooth - hope she is settling a bit for you and Noah though!
Rac- Hope the weigh in eases your mind on Friday - sounds like he is doing great and giving his mummy lots of sleep!
Bec- Hi there, I'm glad Josh is feeling better after gastro.
Hi everyone else - hope you are all doing well!
Beebee- Thanks for your advice, I'm sure that you're right re: eating lumpy food when she is ready. Kyla seems to like doing things in her own time. However, it's reassuring to hear your story.
-
Happy 1st Birthday Ella!:happybirthday:
Hope you have a wonderful day, full of surprises and kisses and cuddles!
Happy birthing day, Rae. Hope you have a day full of fond memories.
-
Happy 1st Birthday Ella
hope you have a wonderful day with lots of surprises
Hi Rae - it was lovely to meet you & Ella
-
Happy Birthday Ella :confetti:
(and happy birthing day to you Rae)
Hope you've had a great birthday!!
-
Gee - It's a bit quiet in here at the moment!! I think I can hear an echo...echo...echo..
Hope everyone is well and coping okay.
We had our MCHN visit Friday and Kyla is now 8.5kg. We have the pead tomorrow.
I think Kyla's teething atm...she has been off her food, tummy achy, chucky, dribbly, and generally unhappy. I felt like the laundry was a pit of pooie and spewy clothes this morning (sorry tmi). She is either teething or not well....not sure.
Haven't seen Nickers around much lately - hope you and Nixon are doing good!
-
Hi Carrie,
I'm here.
Not much to report.
Ivy is sick again.
New paed on Wednesday.
Ivy now has two teeth, to rival her brother's
ummm...
Sorry to hear Kyla is unwell again or teething, yuck to both, yay that she is 8.5 kgs!!!!
-
Happy 1st Birthday Joshua!!!!!! :happybirthday: :happybirthday: Hope you got lots of pressies, hugs and kisses.
Happy birthing day Bec, hope you had a wonderful day, with lots of happy memories!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSHUA AND BIRTHING DAY BEC
Wow - all these birthdays!!
TIFF- Hope the Pead is good on Wednesday. Poor Ivy has had a bad run of it hasn't she? Woohoo for her chompers - watch out Noah!
I forgot to add - Kyla is clapping now when I say clap hands, and bopps to her vtech toy, and says num num when she eats...cute!
-
AWWWWWW, that is cute!
Noah makes kissing noises and when you offer up your cheek, he savages it with slobber and then, under the guise of kissing you, bites down...HARD!! I t hurts too!
yeah, Ivy is having a bit of a rough winter but spring is almost here.
-
Happy Birthday Joshua
hope you had a fun day filled with lots of cuddles and exciting new toys
-
Tiff & Carrie,
sorry to hear Ivy & Kyla are not well - hope tomorrow brings brighter and better days for you all.

We had a party yesterday which was great and had a lovely day today too. He got lots of awesome pressies and lots of hugs & kisses!
And Trish, I think I am coping ok thanks ;) , although I have no idea where the past year has gone or where my baby boy has gone!??
Tiff, what's happening with little Ivy? I hope you get some results from your paed appointment. Yay for her new teeth! Look out Noah! And ouch to his bitey kisses! Josh does those too.
Carrie, I hope Kyla is better soon too. The clapping sounds gorgeous! Clever girl!
How is everyone else doing?

Hey everyone, Anneliese is finally home. 2 weeks in hospital, is still having apnoea episodes, i havent slept more than about 1-2 hours in the last week... Have had a couple of DHS visits, courtesy of MIL... asking about my drug and alcohol addictions... (huh, i dont even smoke!!) and the fact my kids are never bathed (once to twice a day, thank you!!) just all bull s**t lies. So not happy. Anneliese is about 3 1/2 kgs now though, still in 0000's, a couple of outfits fit her that are 000's. She's starting to get red hair like her mummy... (my avatar lies about my hair... :))
Happy birthday to everyone that celebrated them!!
-

hope everyone else & bubs are all well.
Ciao for now
-
Hi all!
Simone - Glad to hear that Anneliese is home, the apnoea's must be scarey and stressful for you, hope you are coping okay, though on so little sleep you must be exhausted! How awful of your MIL during such a stressful time for you!
Rae- I love the pic of Ella on your ticker, she's getting so big and standing! Wow!
Nickers- Glad to see you back online! A Christening in Sydney will be great!
Bec- Glad Josh had a great birthday. New toys are always fun! Kyla is loving hers.
Tiff- Ouch at the bitey kisses...but cute! Reminds me of that Panadol ad where the bub bites her mums nose - I love it! Let us know ho you go with the Pead.
Had our Pead visit today and he was happy with how Kyla is going and her progress. We got home and Kyla had a 3 hour sleep. When she woke up I picked her up and her clothes were soaked - I though her nappy must have leaked wee...I was wrong...it was poo (diohrea) everywhere! All through her bed, up her back, down her legs, even in her socks!! Not sure if it's teething of a tummy bug, but I hope it goes soon. It's not even that long ago that she had gastro!
Hi to Trish, Trish, Kirsty and all others!
-
Oh carrie, dont you hate them?? The boys had water diahorrea a few weeks ago, you have to get them as soon as they happen or they go everywhere...
Anneliese farts all day everyday, they smell... Im still breastfeeding, so i suppose thats why they smell-she only poo's once-twice a week. I think she's developed reflux as well, i put her on her side to sleep, as before she went into hospital she was abit spewy (i thought it was just as she wasnt well) but last night i found puke in a line from her mouth, to about a metre to the side of her cot-projectile. So off to the drs... That might be why she's not sleeping at night as well.
Off to the drs for me as well this week, i discovered a lump on the back of my neck. I found it ages ago, but i had tonsilitis and thought it might just be swollen glands, but its still there and a little bigger... fingers crosssed its nothing...
Anyways, hi to everyone :)
-
Hi girls,
Thought I would update you all on our visit to the paed.
He was lovely.
He listened.
He agreed that we needed good consistant care.
He checked the babies from top to toe and decided that he would be keeping a close eye on the pair of them.
Noah is going to be treated as asthmatic. Young, I know but with the strong family history and his very loud wheeze, he decided to err on the side of caution, which I am happy with.
He was happy with his milestones, happy with his weight.
Ivy has been 'upgraded' if you will to GORD now, so classed as a chronic reflux disease. He has upped the Losec and will monitor how she goes with this. Also has been put on peptijunior, which is cow and soy protein free formula as he feels that she has a strong allergic history. We are going to introduce foods very slowly for her as everytime we start a new food she breaks out in hives which then become eczema.
He felt the blood was NOT normal in her vomiting but wants to start conservatively.
Will also treat her as though she has asthma if she starts with a cold and wheeze again.
Dave and I walked away very happy. He was very thorough, asked lots of questions about William, our previous history with asthma, eczema, ear infections etc. He was friendly and LISTENED. What's more is that he undressed the babies, didn't even cringe at the nappy!!!!
We'll see him again in three months BUT if they get sick, if I have worries, if I have questions I can call his rooms and he will return my call. I can bypass the GP and just go directly to him.
So that is it. Finally feel like we have someone who will work with us, although, we did get all the care we needed from the other docs, it was just that seeing a different doc each time and having a paed who was incontactable was very confusing.
Thanks girls for all you support.
-
Tiff, YAY!!! on the excellent Paed. appointment. It must feel so much better getting listened to and having everything validated.
-
Hey tiff, im glad you have a paed who will listen... When Xander kept having lung troubles, i tried telling drs it was asthma, and all they would tell me was "you cant diagnose it so young." What do you know, he's an asthmatic. Grrr...
-
got anneliese measured up today...
4.1 KGS!!! 9 lb, finally....
53cm long, and 37.5 cm head.
Thats pretty much exactly how big xander was at birth, i couldnt imagine pushing that out!!
-
Tiff, Glad the Paed listened to you this time and sounds good for Ivy & Noah. I just love ur new pic on your ticker! was that hard to get the shot withouth them both wriggling around?!
Simone- Yay for Anneliese breaking the 4kg mark! I was so happy when nixon finally went over 4kg, feels like a weight (get it!) off your shoulders and moving to the next step!
-
Tiff - Fantastic news that the Pead was helpful, what a relief it must be for you to have some continuem of care and someone who listens and take your concerns seriously! I can't believe he undressed them for you...I hate having to undress and dress Kyla at the Pead - she always cracks it when I dress her. AND she HATES the measuring - always screams (we call it 'The Rack'). Ditto at what Nic said - what a cute ticker pic!!
Simone- Go Anneliese, 4kg is great!
Well Kyla did have gastro again - only just started to pick up a bit today. I had booked into the Pinky McKay massage for tonight but had to give it a miss as I thought she wouldn't be up to it :( What a bummer!
-
Carrie,
So sorry to hear that little Kyla had gastro again. It's nasty, isn't it? Some days you wonder when it will ever end.
-
Hi girls :)
Tiff...I am SO glad that you have finally found someone who will listen to you and give your babies the care that they need. He sounds great. What a relief! How is Ivy going now?
Carrie...poor Kyla with the gastro. When Josh had it, he had a couple of nappies like the one you described. The strip off the clothes, put him in the bath kind of nappies. So horrible for them. I hope she is feeling better again today.
Nic...good to have you back! Nixon sounds so gorgeous. I hope your Mother's Group goes well.
Simone...great stats for Anneliese. How is she going after her big spew the other night? Did you get the lump in your neck checked out? I hope it's all ok.
A big hello to everyone else also!
Josh is doing well. He spends most of his days crawling or standing. He loves to stand against anything that will support him - lounges, tables, chairs, etc and loves to walk along the lounges and coffee tables. I took him to the nurse the other day for his 12 month check up...his 12 months (10 months corrected) stats are:
Weight: 10.2kg
Length: 77.5cm
HC: 48.5cm
He's come a long way in a year!
In some other news...a few of you already know, but I am pregnant again! I'm looking forward to giving Josh a little brother or sister and hoping for a nice, LONG pregnancy this time round. Well, fingers crossed anyway!
