We are doing ok :) Brendan has a cold at the moment, so quite a bit grumpy!!
He had his 12 month CHN check which didn't go as well.... Brendan has tongue-tie and has to see a speechy. He also has a "hole" in his stomach muscles which he has to see a physio for. Other than that good. lol
Brendan still hasn't cracked the 9kg mark he was 80gms off. lol
Going great here also :) Thanks for asking Nic. What are you doing for Nixon's 2nd birthday?? I am always interested. Collecting ideas for the future :p
Dd will be one year (corrected) on Saturday ... all I can say about that is GOSH!! Is'nt it strange how you remember some dates and forget the others?? I remember when she got her first tooth and took her first step, but if you ask me what date she sat up :dunno: or crawled for the first time :dunno: really, or gave her first smile. I know that one sounds stupid, about the smile, but I really don't know. I never knew if she was smiling, pulling her face or having gas :cryinglaugh:
Sally, :hug: sorry to hear your little man is sick. Hope he gets better real soon. When are you starting him with the physio and the speechy *me like that word*
They haven't got back to me with dates, but for the speechy (lol) it's about a 4 week wait. And I'm not sure the physio can really help Brendan, because I have a feeling he has a hernia, which I'm not sure whether the physio can fix.
One of the things I hate is being a first time mum and not knowing things I probably should. I have no idea what is "normal" and what isn't... thats why his tongue-tie has only just been picked up (and was only picked up because his babble didn't sound right??? and also because he wont swallow anything other than mush) I didn't know that his babble sounded wrong... i thought it was just normal baby talk. :( poor lil man, this could have been fixed alot earlier! Thats also a down side to having 4-5 different people see him (we moved about 3 months ago).
Meh, i'll get over it.
Brendan has been home for 11 months today(6/3/08). His corrected age is 10 months and 1 day :)
:hug: Lucky a hernia is not that major opperation (compared to open-heart surgery) and that can be fixed chop-chop (no pun intended :) ) And about getting it fixed earlier, I am sure that he would not remember or mind. :) Sometime us mommies are WAY to hard on ourselves ;) speaking from experiance!!
I hear you on how sucky you feel about being a first time mom and missing stuff. I did not even have friends/sisters/cousins that had babies first, so I was in uncharted waters with dd. And from the get-go my mom confessed that she was to "old" and we were small to long ago for her to really remember :cryinglaugh: God bless her!! And I still don't know what is "normal" and what's not. I tend to rely on other ppl's comments, filtering out what I think is rubbish and just keeping an eye on the stuff that I feel might be a concern. If I am really concerned my poor gp has to hear me moaning :lol: And I tend to get smarter as I go along. Not that I am naive enough to think that it will ALL be helpfull with #2, but I don't worry about ppl commenting on her lenght or her weight. She is happy and growing and learning.

10th feb 2007 at 6:30pm my waters broke... and i was actually excited and fairly calm, i knew it was too soon, but also didn't realise how bad it was (i feel pretty stupid for having felt that way)

I guess when you go through something so traumatic you remember a lot of the "silly" trivial things. Yet i've forgotten a lot of the more important things. I was only able to write Brendans journey through looking at pics taken and remembering the day i took it. lol
PSML Sally!! I had to check the date on the photo's and remind myself that the camera was one day early when writing down her stuff!!! And if it was not for my dad's very perfectionistic way of labeling digital photo's, I would probably had buggerd it up.

Thats my number one pice of advice to expectant mums, no matter what gestation... always pack a diary (or something that can be used as one)
I really wish I'd kept a better account of what Brendan went through and what I went through too!
i started one and wrote in it the first few weeks, i actually dont know where it is.... im sure i will come across it when we move again!
for Nixon's birthday we are combining it with my neice (sisters DD) who is born 4 days after Nixon. Having it at my place and going to hire some stuff from the toy library. You can have the stuff for up to 4 weeks i think and its pretty cheap, kids love it.
we will do a couple of games maybe pass the parcel, not sure what else.
im going to do a construction workers cake for Nix and my sister is going to try and do a dora cake. Nixon loves dora but most things are so girly, but if there are some dora things on the day he will love it! and the lolly bags we will do half each im gonna do workers ones which is pretty simple just a brown paper bag with some yellow in a cross. its from a cake book my sister has they have whole themes which is great
i still remember those dates. 12th April 06 had my first leak.
didnt get to hospital until 14th April 06 after 8hrs of leaking (dont worry sally i felt like i was just wetting myself and didnt even want to go to the hospital to be told so)
1am 17th April constractions started, 3am rung dh,5.30am being taken to delivery suites, 6am rang parents (they were interstate with bags ready and packed)
have you taken Brendan to the docs to check for a hernia?
can the tounge tie stil be snipped at this age to help fix it?
No I haven't taken him to the drs, i'm waiting to hear back from the physio or the CHN. We saw Brendans paed end of Jan and he didn't say anything. (I forgot to ask and thought it was "normal" anyway) I'm giving them till the end of the week, if I haven't heard i'll take him to my gp.:

I have no idea about the tongue-tie... the CHN didn't know how it would work now that hes older. But she did seem to think they still would be able to. I've heard from the sperechy and we are on the waiting list (about 2-4 weeks)
I guess at this stage i'm not too worried, he's healthy and he's happy and thats whats important. Hernia's aren't that bad, and his (if it is one) his good (just not getting better) I just keep telling myself it'll all be ok :)

Hi all, new to the site and forum. I also had a premmie. My princess was born at 33 weeks, after stopping labour at 26 weeks. She was lucky enough to only spend a month in hospital, but not without a few ups and downs of course. Biggest problem we had was that she was unable to digest her milk and I had to express ( a jersey cow i'm not - 30 mins to express 2mls - FUN) to help her digest the formula. It's frustrating watching your little one only getting 6mls milk an hour thru a nasal-gastric. Then progressing to 20mls, just to drop back again.

How old is your little girl now? I also had a 33weeker who will be 2 next month.
i'd like to say things get easier, well they do in some ways,feeding etc but he's just hitting terrible two stage at the moment and as gorgeous as he is, tests the limits a lot! thats fantastic you made it to 33wks after labour starting at 26wks
Sally- im good thanks, Tyron is 5months old today.... he is such a boofer boy. he got 2 teeth at 4 1/2 months old and weighed him yesterday he's 8.6kg...... i think i can see him growing infront of me lol.
Most definatley going to be the tower of the family i am sure of it, even looking at Nixon's corrected stats Tyron is about 6cm taller.
Nickers compare him to Sofia who is a bit over 4 months old and is 5.2kg but also teething

Brendan is EVERYWHERE! lol... he moves so fast and is sooo stealthy too. He has just started to cruise the furniture... woohoo!!

My little girl is actually turning 7 in April. Altho she only spent a month in scbu, she still seems to have some problems now. By the time she was one she'd spent about 2 more weeks in hospital with bronchiolitis and a night in ICU. She's developed a stutter which they say is due to the early birth. But my girl is a fighter...she fights with me every day LOL.
I was so lucky to have not have had her at 26 weeks... the biggest shock for me that day was I didn't even realise I was in labour (she's my fourth baby). The dr's didn't hold out much hope for us getting to 28 weeks. But as I said, she's a fighter.
She literally kicked her way out on the day she was born. When I went into labour, she had one foot presenting with the other stuck under my right ribs, and her head under my left ribs. Emergency ceaser followed.
But as you said Nickers, it does get easier and that was something we really held onto and it helped...unfortunately we had no support when she was born, so it was tough to talk about what was happening.
WOW 7!! :clap: You did well to hold out until 33 weeks!! Was she born due to pre-term labour or was there some other reason? Brendan came early because my waters broke at 28 weeks.
I went into labour 3 hours after having an ultrasound (gestational diabetes meant bub was growing to fast) and while I was seeing the doc my waters broke. I didn't tell him tho, cause i thought i had majorly wet myself...oops. I went to the toilet and thought "this isn't right" and went back to the nurses station and told them that my waters had broken. Thats when they found her foot was presenting. She had squirmed in the 3 hours to burst my waters with her toes. I'd had my show about 3 weeks before I actually went into labour. I didn't have any painful contractions though, just "period" pain in the back. My wise hubby decided to time the pains and within 4 complaints, I had gone from 20 minutes apart to 3 minutes apart. Within 2 hours I had gone from 3 cm dilated (which I had been for 7 weeks) to 8 cm dilated. So it was very quick in the end.

hi everyone, just thought id introduce myself here after having dd at 33w 5d after a placental abruption two and a half days earlier. It seems a little strange to be psting in here though because although these past few weeks have been stressful and tiring it seems like nothing compaired to the rest of your stories that i've read. Lydia didn't need any help breathing and brest fed right from the start, only needing nasal gastro topups because she was too sleepy. but even that was okay because i've got so much milk this time round. so much so that i've started feeding it to ds (who weaned himself at 6 1/2 months coz i was pg). Anyway we came home on day 12 and so far everything has been good here too. Seeing the clinic nurse tomorrow to do all the normal weight checks etc.

My son was 33weeks and 3 days and a huge 2296grams
He spent 4weeks in hospital which seemed like an enternity to me but compared to others it was nothing.
any legnth of stay is too long.
WOW @ breast feeding from the start what an amazing little girl!
thats great u can feed DS also, when i couldnt bf my second (who was FT) i was expressing for him and had so much of it i was giving some to my 18month old who hadnt had BM since 9months.
One thing i hope she doesnt get but is quiet common in prems is reflux.
DS started getting it at about 6-7weks old or when he was actually due.

I have a question for the moms on here ... can colic come back?????? DD has been soooo restless the last couple of days. She is constantly crying and want to be picked up, and then want to be put down and waking up during the night (not that she is sleeping through) She will arch her back and scream and then toss and turn and moan. :redface: She pass wind and then she is ok for a while. I have no idea what can be the problem. She is not eating anything new or strange. Yes, she is teething, but can that make her tummy hurt??
BTW - have any of your kids chew their lips bloody?? DD grinds her teeth, I think it's because they are new and strange and it sounds funny when she does that, and in the process she bites her lip. I should just probably watch that it does not become infected, right? Nothing I can really do about than??
Nadine, it sounds a lil like silent reflux to me.
Brendan grinds his teeth, but never bitten his lip. poor lil mite. I dont think there is much you can do... maybe some bonjella to help protect the area?
Argghhh Sally!!!! Isn't reflux suppose to be OVER now??!?!?!? Maybe I'll try some Gaviscon tonight ... hmmm.
Yeah I put some gliserien (same as bonjella) on it last night, poor thing. If she had a husband and went to the shops like that, the town would have been talking ;) :p
Brendan has been reflux free for around 6 weeks... but just a few days ago he had a few bouts of it.

It went better last night. I opted to give her some cramp/colic medisan before trying the Gaviscon, and I can't say that it was that much better, but it was not much worse. She had the most wicked diper EVER just before bed, so that is why I went with the cramp/colic stuff. Tonight I might just try both :dunno: It's like walking deaf, dumb and blind into a shopping mall.
Could it be that she is being overstimulated in day-care? I was thinking this last night, because she is so tired when I pick her up. She has been "promoted" to the second class just a while ago.
It could be... especially if she isn't getting at least one nap. Maybe ask what her routine is at the day-care and see if they can squeeze in a nap? It could very well be the reason for the colicky type symptoms.
Let us know how she goes... you never know!
An update on Brendan, he had his CHN check and Speech Therapist visit on Monday
His stats are:
W: 9280gms (+360)
L: 73cm (+1)
HC: 46cm (same)
Percentiles:
(actual/corrected)
W: 10th/25th
L: 10th/25th
HC: 25th/50th
For weight and length he is only just on the lines... for HC he is in between the percentiles :D Big BOOFA HEAD!
At our speech visit we were given some foods to try and get him to chew. She could definatley see it was an issue for him, but wasn't going to make the decision on whether to snip or not, thats up to Brendan's paed. Who we see in 1 months time. Brendan is delayed in language and speech skills. But thats not a huge issue just yet.
I was thinking that exact same thing. She is SUPPOSE to sleep about two hours (12-2), well she does over weekends, but I think the other kids are waking her before she is rested. They all sleep on the floor in the playroom. She is not a light sleeper (Thanks to her time spent in NICU), but if it gets real rowdy, she might wake. I was thinking about telling the lady to let her sleep in the office or something. The routine at daycare is nap between 12-2, but I just know not all the kids sleep that long. I'm rambling lol
I'll keep a closer look over the weekend, might just pick up something else.

He's doing well considering circumstances. Bit annoyed at the Tongue Tie not being picked up until just a month ago... but at least they know now! Oh and he's also back on Pentavite. Poor lil mite.

Sally, Congratulations on one whole year!! I know exactly how you feel. Mine was one year home on the 20th of Feb.
Her motor skills is fine, well, I don't see anything wrong and neither has the girls at day-care or the pead, so she is doing great. She has reached the height that she is getting some climbing action on all the low furniture and especially on this little Winny the Pooh schooter. She will drag it to the nearest couch and STAND on the schooter's seat!! Then she is like" woo-hoo look at me" and she giggels and bop her butt up and down .. all the time STANDING on the seat. I tell you, my heart is jumping out of my ribcage every day. But hey, if she falls, maybe :rolleyes: she will learn not to do it again.
Yeah, I'm ttc # 2, thanks for the wishes. :) Scary stuff. DH says I am already pg, but it's too soon to test yet. Still have about 10 days before period is due, but he keeps on saying my boobs are bigger and that I am "positvely glowing" (he is just trying to score :p ) I am terrified that this little pigeon could be a prem, but I am not going to consentrate to hard on that. I am going to relax and not stress in this pg, I mean, what are the chances really???? Come on, two prems, pffttttt surely that can not happen *hide me* :p

Brendan is a climber too... I call him Monkey Bum. LMAO! He has a little car that he pulls over to the lounge as well! And a dinosaur ball thingy that he climbs up. lol.

We've had a terrible few nights. Brendan has been waking 4-5 times a night staying awake for 20 mins or so at a time. And last night we maybe got 2hrs sleep. I'm exhausted! I think he's coming down with something he had a soaring temp last night... poor lil man.

Well my ex premmie turned 2 on Thursday! and we had his birthday party yesterday.
we stayed at home on Thursday he was just having so much fun playing with all his new stuff. Some family came over in the evening.
The party went well, so much preperation and organisation though and i really didnt feel i got to chat to many ppl.
will be getting Nixon checked with MCHN over the next few weeks. He is generally caught up in most aspects, however comparing him to some other FT 2yr olds they seem to talk a lot better than he does.
he has no problems having a conversation, you just cannot understand majority of it! i sooooo want to know what he is saying because it would make for so much better communication, so not sure if a speechie may be the way to go, see what they say anyway.
size wise no prob there. i call him my skinny minny because he is quiet tall (about 92-93cm at a guess) and about 12.5kgs. anyway most of the time he eats well so i know he is healthy.
