Bumbo chairs are on sale at ToysRUs for $50 (I think) at the moment

Otherwise maybe a baby sleeping bag?

Definitely not one of those baby record books (just because they are a common gift - I was given FOUR!!). I'd also steer away from baby wraps/blankets, socks, and singlets - just because I was given heaps of those too so they seem to be a common idea.

Maybe lots of little handy things like those toy-link chains - cost around $15 for a set of 24 usually, these are awesome for attaching toys to a pram, carseat, playmat, anywhere really. I use mine all the time.

If you can find one in the shops, a Sophie the Giraffe teether - I know there's a lot of celebrity-hype around these but honestly my DD loves this giraffe, it's the best teether I have seen and way better than anything else she has. They retail for $35 but ToysRUs (BabiesRUs stores) has a current promo where if you spend $100 in store you can buy one for $10 (not that I am plugging TRU I just went to the sale last week and got one as a gift myself!!).

The absolute best gift I was given was size 0 and size 1 clothes. I got a whole heap of small clothes (000 and 00) that bub grew out of quickly, but size 0 and ones were a godsend.

The most special gift I was given was a hand crafted wooden album, filled with black pages for photos. Its truly very special to us as a new family, and I burst into tears when I unwrapped it. It was from my bestie, and she was so excited to give it to me, I know because she constantly hassled me to open it. The front has 'Our Baby' engraved onto the wood. It was pricey (about $150 I think-BUT totally worth every dollar) but she went halvies with another close friend. If you're after the albums creator detail let me know and I will PM you. Its a Perth based business from home, but im sure she will post interstate etc if necessary. We have filled it with beautiful b&w photos of our daughter, dating from my pregnancy, through her birth and to todaty. I love filling it and love looking through it. Its on display in our living room, and I feel so warm and fuzzy just knowing it was from my bestie

Thanks ladies!!!! You guys have given me some great ideas!

Mrs P: Loving Sophie the giraffe for my DS...hes teething big time atm!!
Larger clothes are definately another goodie...i guess everyone will be focussing on buying newborn clothes and forget that they grow out of them so quickly!
Sunny09: Would love it if you could PM me the album creater that sounds like a lovely personal gift too that me and a few of the girls could contribute towards

Thanks again for all the suggestions...feel free to add more!! Im writing a list

-Mum and bub matching baltic amber necklaces...
    -A breast feeding shawl
-A custom modern cloth nappy, you could design the picture/writing in line with your friends likes and the sex of the baby if you know (even those who use sposies 99% of the time could still use it for going out/special occasions if it's a one size fits most).
    - Cloth breast pads or gel ones that can be put in the freeze to help stop mastitis (so much nicer than stick-to-you disposable ones)

How prepared is Mum? If she has everything already why not get her something for her? Something to pamper herself with before or after bub arrives, like a treatment at a day spa, a mani and pedi. that kinda thing.
