    baby sleeping in bassinet

my mum has bought us a steelcraft bassinet (without the pram) for if we are visiting a relatives house etc and the bub can have a sleep in it. we we're going to put the bub in the cot to sleep when we get home from hospital but i was wondering if anyone has their baby sleep in the bassinet instead of the cot for the first few weeks after bubs comes home to be in their room with them.
are they too small or are they ok to use. to me they don't look too much smaller than a proper sleeping bassinet you can buy. mum seems to think it'll be fine but just thought i'd check to see whether anyone else did this also.

My MIL brought me a beautiful white bassinet and stand for my baby shower. I used it for a while with DS but he didnt like it much (or the cot) and he slept mostly in the pram until we sorted out the issues. My DD loved it and stayed in there in our room for 3 months until i decided she was getting too big and changed to the cot.

I think it will be fine to use. come in handy cos they are small enough if you have a small bedroom and you want bubs in with you,

DD slept in her bassinet (in the cot) to keep her warm because it was winter and her room was very cold. She slept in for as long as she would fit then she just slept in her cot. It was my MCHN who suggested it so I am sure its fine.

A bassinette is great if your not planning to have the cot in your bedroom. I bought one when DD was 3weeks old & it was great coz i didn't want to co-sleep but i didnt want her in her own room so she was still close & when she grew out of that she was ready for her own room

I've got one that's almost the same but it's a Valco bassinette. I'm probably going to buy a stand (they're only about $30 from most baby stores) and put it in our room for the first few months. DS often slept in it attached to the pram so I think it will be OK.

I did have a friend who was told they aren't recommended for full time use, only for the prams but I honestly can't see why - they look to be exactly the same as other bassinets you buy on a stand. She was told this by a lady in a baby store who may have just been trying to get an extra sale out of her

I've learnt to always have a back up plan though - DS HATED his bassinet (different one) and we moved him to his cot at 7 weeks where he slept soooo much better.

Charlotte slept in her bassinette next to the bed, or in our bed, until she was about 5 months old.
I then moved her to her cot.
The bassinette was great cos it meant she could be close to us and since I was BF it was sooo much easier to feed overnight.

Madeline still sleeps in a bassinet in our room - she is 3 months. Our reason was the cot was too big for her and she didnt like it going from the crib at the hospital to a BIG cot but she loves her bassinet.

Emily is still in her bassinette and she is nealry 6 months! She is still in our room. We were planning on puting her straight into her room but when we got her home she seemed to tiny to go into a big cot and I wanted her close by.
