    changing tables

    Do you *really* need one?

I'm umming and arring about getting one. We had decided at first not to get one, as a lot of people we have spoken to said they wasted their money buying one as they used them a few times then didnt bother with it.

But now I'm uncertain. I dont need one for the space of putting changing things, we have built in robes in bubs room and will also have a chest of drawers I can put things in.

We have a change mat, should we just stick with that?
Did you find having a change table worth it?

    TIA

We're not getting one. We have BIR and space for all bubs stuff in there. I just don't see the point if you don't need it, a change mat on the floor/bed/couch/table seems fine to me

I got one and love it. I love leaving it set up and not having to find a place to put it. Especially when changing a nappy at 3 am in the dark...

We have a change table, just one from target. It gets used for every nappy change, getting dressed etc. I didn't ever use one for dd1 (although we did have one) I used to change her wherever we were- on the floor or couch and it ended up really hurting my back

We have one, i found it great for the middle of the night changes, no stuffing round putting bub on the floor or bed, nice n high, i also used to wheel it into the bathroom and change her on it, i'd put the heater on the bench and face it towards her.. nice n warm... but saying that once they started rolling i stopped using it and use the mat on the floor

We got one from the tender centre for $40 and it is hands down the best baby product we have got. My DS is 16 months and its still used for every nappy change/ getting dressed. My DP is quite tall and now that I am 8 months pregnant it is really fantastic. Was also great after my c/s.

If you are on facebook there are some great buy swap sell groups popping up for just about every city, maybe you can get a cheap on there, so if you dont use it you can always resell and get your money back.

We had one from IKEA that attached to a top of a chest of drawers, and I loved it. And now the drawers are for clothes and not nappies and wraps and all the associated stuff. I found it really convenient to have everything all in one place. Others do just fine without one. For me, it was the height as well, I really liked being able to stand to change bub.

If you have ample storage space, what about a foldable change table? That'd be fairly cheap, you could move it easily, and you'd still have the convenient height and designated space.

If you don't feel you need one, it's not like you have to have one! I prefer to have a change table/area, but not everyone does. Whatever works for you.

We love ours, wouldn't go without it! I have a bad back and pregnancy and motherhood has only aggravated it. Changing DD at the right height makes things so much easier. She can't easily roll off a proper a change mat/table either due to the raised sides! We have all our nappies, wipes, creams, etc stored underneath - easy. If you don't want a full change table I'd suggest at the very least a chest of draws or a bench where you plan to change your LO with all your supplies close by. There are A LOT of nappy changes and although the frequency decreases as the months go by, having everything close by makes life a hell of a lot easier.

    Couldn't be without it.
It isn't the space or storage issue, it is simply easy to have a designated space - I don't have to bend over (more importantly neither does 6'2 DH ), kneel or clear a space anywhere....
I don't have to worry about poosplosions on bed sheets and it is a space I can easily clean as necessary and have everything there, handy and ready to go when needed without fobbing around collecting everything to put on the bed and then put it away again after.

Honestly, get one. You will love it. We used ours until Charlotte TTd at almost 2 years old. She knew what was going on when she was put there and became part of her routine and knowing what was going on.

I love changetables and couldn't imagine not having one. I actually have 2 - 1 with a bath that slides out from underneath, and a simple one.

The simple one I have is on sale at pram warehouse for around $40 I bough our simple one for $60.

    Lol limeslice to "poosplosions!!!!!
    That's one I haven't heard yet!
My fav is still "poonami" hahaha

We have a change table, obviously haven't used it yet but it matches our cot, is a nice solid wood and has the storage under it for her towels, nappies, wipes etc. I have a sh*t back an DH is 6"3 so it'll be good for both of us to change her on...

I was thinking about getting another one but then thought just the change mat would be sufficient for us. We use it on the coffee table, the chest of drawers etc. It is easier to move from room to room as we need it. I just put bubs stuff in a bag and make sure I take it to where I need it.

I'm another that wouldn't be without one. Beds and floors are great until your back starts to hurt or they start to wriggle everywhere. I got rid of mine before we moved recently but wish I hadn't. I'll be buying another if we have another bub.
With DD her nursery was upstairs but the amount of times we changed her every day it was easier to have the change table in the family room with all the stuff we needed and all her clothes in the coffee table drawer lol.
