Early on we dressed warmly at night and swaddled in pure cotton wraps, and on really cold nights we would use all cotton blankets to tuck them in over the top. When they got a bit older then slept in sleeping bags so we were sure they were warm all night long and would cover them in blankets if needed (after 6 mths or so) Most quilts that they sell in packs with pillow slips etc. are not SIDS safe - might be worth popping on their site to see what the recommendations are for babies. xox
I didn't use a quilt as my boys have all used sleeping bags, so I have just needed flat sheets only. I did have one of those quilt sets with my first born but honestly never used it, just looked nice when he wasn't sleeping in the cot.
TBH I've only ever used the fitted sheet on the cot. Took me a while to find just the fitted instead of a set (which always comes with a pillowcase even though you aren't supposed to use pillows for babies ).
Like Tan we just tucked a blanket over her. I used a rolled up nappy between the cot and the mattress to keep it secure.
I did have a set but seriously who wants to 'make' a cot every day when you don't use all the bits....same reason I don't have a pile of cushions on my bed.
I actually called SIDS & Kids to discuss what bedding is recommended for bubs in a craddle & cot - they were very helpful.
At first we had DD swaddled and had a fitted sheet, flat sheet and blankets. Then we moved DD (at about 3 months) into sleeping bags and eventually added a thin doona and pillow (both of these ARE not recommended), however DD slept better with the weight of the doona and liked a pillow.
