With my DS. I brough an ezibreathe mattress from Babies galore ( about $140)... it had special vents so if bubs did end up on his tummy air still was able to come through the mattress... Also i have noticed although the mattress is important also the mattress protector is too... I had one that had a plastic backing and was informed that if bubs did as mentioned end up on the tummy this would indead suffocate the little one...

Also i read that a new mattress should be brough every 2-3 yrs for cots. which is why we purchased a new one (same ezibreathe)
