hi all, my bub is due at the end of september and i was wondering what would be appropriate to dress a baby in? i have read a few things but am still quite confused by how many layers they need to be in... singlet, jumpsuit? then outer layers? and what about those little body suits? and swaddling? how will i know if its too hot or cold???
PLEASE HELP!
xx
I was so confused about that as well! I was told that you should dress them in what would keep you warm
Mind you, I always put my DS in something slightly warmer.
One of my DD's was born middle Sept and at first it was cool at night so we just dressed her basically fulltime in the bonds wonder suits 24/7 with no singlet. Then as the days got warmer towards say xmas she was in singlets and nappies and thats it. I was so nervous about what to dress her in etc, but don't worry instincts do kick in! Goodluck, how exciting you are due so soon!!
My gran always used to tell me that with a newborn you put on one more layer than you are wearing (when you are indoors). So if you are dressed in one layer then you do that for bubs and also a light rug or swaddling wrap makes the extra layer.
then to go outdoors you use a heavier rug and a hat. (all depends on where you live and your local weather and if you home is well heated/cooled i suppose..???)
also she used to tell me feel the bubs tummy with the back of your hand to judge temperature.
I would have a few wondersuits, for newborns they are fabulous. Then while bubs is still little and the days are warmer just have singlet/singlet suits and nappies. Don'tget realy elaborate outfits. When they are a newborn, up to a few months old it is about comfort and ease of changing them. You can get really cute singlets and bodysuits at the moment
The general rule is what you are wearing plus one layer. to check how warm bubs is feel their chest.
My dS was born end of march when it was very hot in SA, he wore a singlet nappy and a wrap a lot of the time at home, except at night.
Good luck. I know it seems scary but you will figure it out.
I really stressed about this & went overboard on the clothes dept. I go by the basic rule that you put an extra layer on so for me that would mean a singlet under his clothes.
For me I hated dressing DS too often & all those cute outfits... are just that, cute - but a real pain in the a$$ to dress him so he lived in the all-in-one suits, that button all the way up the front or zip up so I didn't have to be putting clothes over his head etc... I have only just started to put him in pj's & trackies (so cute)
Sept is a strange month (a bit like march except it gets hotter instead of cooler) some of the suits are lightweight while others are thicker material, have 1/2 thicker ones but you won't really need them cause while they sleep you swaddle them & put a blanket on them anyway.
Also TRUST yourself, instinct does kick in (& yes I didn't believe that either when I was told "you just know" like how? )
