Being a first time mum, and not having any friends/family who have had children recently, I was wondering what things we will need to get for when bub is born. I am trying to compile a list of things to buy, and hopefully make a shortlist of the big items such as prams and car seats.
1. A good, safe car restraint
2. A bag for going out and about to pack all the bits and bobs into!!
After that everything is optional!! Yes really!! we bought a cot last time and have only just started using it in the toddler bed set up as we decided to co-sleep. We got a pram, but I actually preferred using the sling until he was about 6 months old. Highchairs can wait until they are actually eating solids.
Little things - grow suits, socks, nappies, wipes, wraps.
cloth nappies to use as spew rags. we got 2 big packets of these and still didnt have enough. our bub was a real bad spewer when she was first born.
monitor, wraps, nappies (cloth or disposible) wipes (you can never have too many wipes)
someone to help cook a few meals or pick the up the odd few things at the shop for you can really help, when you go to the shops you will see people and it will take like 2 hrs to get a bottle of milk lol.
The cosmo pregnancy mags have a really good checklist of things required and then theings optional for each area (babies room, bathroom, car, out and about, kitchen, etc) I found it really useful.
I am also a first timer making my way through the list of must haves - just wanted to suggest the babies galore catalogue as a helpful place to start - their list is really comprehensive (a little daunting) but there is a lot of info in there we picked one up in store. Target and Big W also have lists up in the baby sections of their stores and i think you can download and print them from their websites as well.
Its so easy to go overboard when prepping for the Baby's arrival(I literally couldnt stop myself buying 000 clothes!) I would say
Car seat
Pram or Sling(I used a sling until DD was about 2 months old)
Cot(She didnt go in it untill around 3 months)
Nappiesx a million!
Wipesx heaps!
Facewashersx 10 or so
Singletsx 6
Jumpsuits x 6
socksx 4
muslinsx 6
Thats about all I can think of, people love to buy for babies too so if you are having a shower you will get heaps of this stuff.
