How did you dress your newborn in Summer?

Moo was a winter baby, so we had lots of layers and nice warm wraps Easy peasy!

Now I'm trying to get organised for a summer bub and am at a real loss as to what they wear! I live in Victoria so it can get quite hot later in the season, but we have reverse cycle air conditioning...so does that mean long sleeves for a newborn?

Please help a preggy brain Mum out!

In a nappy...maybe a singlet or a onesie.
We did use longsleeve sleepsuits some nights.

But then again, we are in Perth lol

Do you mean night, day or both?

DD was a September baby but she was tiny and still in teeny clothes during the hot months At night she just wore short sleeved onesies and a 1.0 tog or 0.5 sleeping bag (depending on how hot it was). The warm days we had when she was still being swaddled, she was often just in a singlet and nappy and wrapped in a muslin.

As for 'real clothes', I bought lots of short sleeved and singlet sleeved onesies from both Target and Myer (Sprout, at Myer, have such a gorgeous range but I will confess to being a complete Sprout addict!). So DD was still comfy and the outfits were practical but she didn't look like she was wearing pjs or underwear all the time, ITMS.

PS: I'm in Perth hence why we had warm weather early and frequently despite DD being born early Sept.

We used singlets and nappies at home and light onsies when out and about.
For bed with an air-con a light long sleeve and legs (no feet) suit and light muslin wrap.

DD was born in November, so well and truly a summer baby.
I had her in a long sleeve onesie, nappy and gro bag with no sleeves at night. I mad sure she was well and truly out of the swaddle stage by the hottest part. I started unwrapping her during the day for sleeps and then when onto the night once she was happy during the day.
I purchased some snugglebum Pj's for her, they are cotton and she were those alot during summer with a onesie underneath. I mostly used short sleeved onesies under the Pj's and sometimes a long sleeve on the chillier nights.
She used to have her snugglebum Pj's and then into her short sleeve gro bag. I also had some longsleeve jumpsuits as well, for those odd nights when it started warm and got a little bit chilly over night, just not cold enough for the snugtime suit.
I also had a one long sleeve snugtime suit (no legs, just like a gro bag, but warmer), as being Melbourne, sometimes a winter day and night will crop up anytime Or a nice hot day and then bam, a cold change from nowhere!
During the day, she was in a short sleeve onesie and dress, shorts/skirt/skort and Tshirt or whatever took my fancy.

ETA: I also had socks on her some nights, she seemed to have cold feet alot.

A midwife told me to put one extra layer of clothing on bubs than what I was wearing.

Luckily I sleep naked lol, as it can get really hot in those high temps in the middle of Summer

In qld just a nappy and singlet here. And when wrapped put the bassinette under the fan. So hot for a newborn here! I had two summer ones.

Yeah, I'm Qld too. Bub was born in Dec. She was in a singlet and nappy during the day and same at night with a muslin wrap and fan on. If we were going out and I wanted her "dressed up" it would be a singlet or short sleeved onesie.

During the day singlet suits if it's a scorcher, leggings over a short sleeve suit if it's a normal Vic summer day and a onesie at night with a light muslin wrap, we have aircon & are in Vic too.

lots of onesies - especially the sleveless ones.

and sometimes just a nappy and singlet.

when it was a little more reasonable, shorts and t-shirts.

and thin muslins, so we could losely wrap him (or put them over car windows for a little shade) without worrying he would overheat.

singlets, short sleeved/no sleeved onsies and muslin wraps is all your need have a couple of warmer wraps and clothes for night time though

Singlets and onesies mainly, practically see through muslin wraps when swaddled.

DD1 was a Feb baby and living in Qld we just dressed her in a singlet and cloth nappy!! She had tshirts and shorts too but hardly wore them..... don't buy much, just lots of singlets!!!

Short sleeved onesies are great for night time with a singlet too!

Thanks for all the input! Moo's first summer was our last without the aircon and it was HOT so thinking back he really only wore nappies. It's the air con that's thrown me I think, I don't want the poor little thing to freeze

DS was a summer bub, we dressed him in just a nappy and singlet most days and often a cotton sleeveless onsie. At night, and especially when the aircon was on, I liked to put him in summer suits with a little cap or short sleeve just so his shoulders were covered. And pretty much only muslin wraps for sleeping.
