Question I feel so dumb but - Mattress Protector and Underlay

Ahhhh I feel like a complete nitwit asking this question:

I have decided to re wash all the baby linen today just to freshen it up a bit as its been a few weeks since it was first washed.
With that said I will need to redress the cot.

I have never used either of the following items myself so I have no idea whether you need to use both OR how to set them up.
My cot mattress has a waterproof side so I will be using that but how does the rest of the stuff go ?

Woolen underlay then mattress protector - to protect the underlay from wees and poos and chucks

    Or

    Mattress protector then Underlay?

    Or

    One or the other

Then what the fitted sheet and top sheet? Do you fold the top sheet in half so it only comes a certain portion up the bed? I have no idea

Over my "collecting time" I have gone a bit OTT as I have a snuggle bed and an Amby Hammock as well and I am washing all that stuff as well - at least my bases will be covered

    Thanks all

    Nae x x

If your mattress is already waterproof then I would use one or the other. My mattress doesn't have a waterproof side so I have a waterproof protector on it and then the underlay on top so it is softer for bub.

Maybe I should use the mattress protector in the meantime JIC Thanks Artechim x

I have mattress protector and then sheet.

When in bassinet there was mattress protector and then sheet and then terry towling cloth nappy as DS was as a chucker and it saved me changing sheet all the time.

I have mattress protector then sheet, but to be honest I didn't find that the sheets got wet or anything. i did put a nappy underneath her head for a couple of months but I don't worry about it now. I fold the flat sheet in half then have it tucked up down the end so it can only come up as far as her chest/just below her shoulders. I did look up short sheeting but that was too hard..lol

I woudn't worry too much about the underlay getting wet/dirty if you have a flat sheet over the top of it, so if it was me I would probably go underlay, protector, sheet, only because that's what we have on our bed! If you are worried about her chucking I would put a terry towelling nappy under her head, mine didn't reach from one side of the cot to the other but I did tuck it in on one side. Now that her hands are grabbing everything I don't use the nappy, she doesn't chuck much overnight now anyway so haven't had any spews on the sheets!

I would definitely use both. Especially coming in to the hotter months bubba start to sweat and you never know when they are going to fil their bed with vomit. I have the matress protector on the mattress and then the woolen underlay over the top of the protector as it is more comfortable for bubby.
I can't believe your little bubba is going to be here any day now!! So exciting!! Wishing you all the best for your upcoming birth.
