Saw this car seat today and have noticed that it rates very well in the CREP safety tests.
I just have a couple of reservations.
1. A 0-8 car seat for just a few hundred? Seems too good to be true.
2. The sales person basically said she thinks the CREP testing is a load of BS. :/ Is it?
3. It seems to have a LOT of padding for a newborn. Is it safe to have that much padding? Isnt there something about not having too much around the baby as it compromises the seatbelt - or something? Not sure where I read that now...
4. Do you have one (Luxi Crown)? What do you think?
We were originally looking at the SnS Safeguard because the sales assistant said it was the same basic seat as the Meridian AHR without all the extras. But they rate very differently according to CREP. I dont want to waste money on unecessary gimicks but if it does make a difference I am willing to spend the extra.
From what I remember the luxi only rear faced to 9kg or something. Most convertible seats rear face to 12 kg.. tho new seats are based on height now more than weight I think. But that was a big downside to that seat for me.
It's a good seat if you are happy to forward face very early. I personally wouldn't go for this seat for a child under 2 for that reason. Liz is right above, although weight isn't stated any more, it has quite low rear-facing height markers. Infa make great seats though at good prices. The padding is fine too. CREP isn't necessarily a load of crap, but because not all seats are tested it's hard to get the whole picture. But any testing beyond the required standard that is hopefully not 'in house' is worth looking at.
I would recommend the Infa Neon or Kompressor. Great seats at good prices. Both have the same RFing height markers, the highest on the market along with some of the SnS seats.
Essentially the same seats, the Neon is the base model and the Kompressor has plusher fabric, colour choices and extra cushie padding for newborns. Neither made the latest round of CREP though if that is important to you.
I'm not sure about that, they don't have the same shell so would perform differently. Doesn't mean one is safer than the other but seems a strange comparison. I'd say the sales rep was pushing SnS hence the CREP comment seeing as Infa is starting to perform as well and in some cases out perform SnS there. I honestly don't know a lot about the Safeguard though so can't really give an opinion on them either way. I do know lots of people love the Neons and Kompressors and have kids RFing up to 3 years in them.
We went in on the weekend and bought the Kompressor Caprice. Looks like a great seat. Too bad they charged us for the Kompressor and gave us the LUXI CAPRICE instead. Now I have to go back and change it.
They are different seats arent they? I mean one is a 0-8 and the other is 0-4! I dont even know how she manged to do that.
Ok good so I know I need to argue my case then lol
I like the blue, DF likes the purple because we have a purple car , so we got the black lol. Will have to see what colors they have in stock when we take the seat back, Im not interested in waiting around for them to order one in. Id rather just take what they have.
