hi nae nae
do you mean a snuggle bed that you put in the middle of the parents' bed when co-sleeping?
Hey everyone,
If you have used either a snuggle bed or a hammock or considering using either I would love to hear how your babies have gone in these and any pro's or con's you found with them, and why you went with that option.
I like the idea of both and both seem to be great for newborns etc.
Cheers

hi nae nae
do you mean a snuggle bed that you put in the middle of the parents' bed when co-sleeping?
ok...well i've actually got both of these items.
we bought the snuggle bed to put between us when co-sleeping and absolutely hated it. we used it for about a week and then couldn't handle it anymore. we just found that it took up so much room in our queen size bed that we couldn't get comfortable- it was like sleeping up against a wall.
also, one of the best things about co-sleeping is that you can just whip your boob out for a quick bf, but i found that with this thing, i couldn't reach my boob across the side of it, if that makes sense? so i used to have to take ds out of it to bf and then put him back in it...ahhh it was basically a nightmare!
i've bought a hammock to use with my new baby when its born, so i haven't actually used it yet (ds is too big for it) but i'm really looking forward to giving it a go as it looks like it will be fantastic. there's lots of threads on here about hammocks and lots of ladies on here swear by them.
Ooh....thanks for the tip about the snuggle bed coz I was thinking they looked like a good idea and we have a queen sized bed too so think I'll give that a miss.
Interested in Hammock's too.
Our baby hammock was an absolute godsend for DS1! He loved the motion and the way he was all snugged in. I could bounce him off to sleep in it when he was tiny and could resettle him from waking by bouncing it again. He became an awesome sleeper and I think the hammock was one of the reasons. When he got older he learned to bounce it himself, it was so cute!
DS2 never took to it, he didn't like it at all, but he settled really easily in his cot so it wasn't an issue. I'm still hanging on to the hammock in case we have #3! I don't know if I'll ever be able to part with it LOL!!

Thanks ladies,
Good tip about the snuggle bed Rainforest . We don't plan (at this stage anyway) on sharing the bed with bub but hey - when I actually get one I may not want to let him/her out of my sight given my history
Worst case senario I could always give it to my cat I am sure he'd love to sleep in itOr even to one of the nans?
Trish thanks for the link to the hammock thread. I love the idea of them curious about the cheaper versions on ebay but think I may just "invest" and buy an Amby one anyway - if future babies don't like it I am sure I could sell it on.

I just picked up an AMBY on ebay for $50It is second hand, but I'm obviously thrilled. Will buy a new mattress and then we'll be set. (Hoping of course that this baby likes it
I haven't tried them before.)
Congrats Snacks (tee hee I am such a poet)
What an awesome buy, I have just seen one listed on Ebay not too far from where I live, decided I will watch it and see how it does![]()
Girls, in relation to second hand Amby's on Ebay, you really cannot go wrong.........the nature of the Amby hammock is that it is totally washable, and the frame itself will last forever, so they are a great buy. (My hammock did 3 babies for a fair while, moved house, came on holidays with us, so saw A LOT of wear and tear, and then I sold it on to one of our lvoely mods........and it was still in good condition.)
Snuggle beds.......I have used my SIL's on the odd occasion (for day sleeps when we were visiting) and it was safe and useful.........BUT as we used the hammock all the time, we never got a snuggle bed oursleves.....
Nae, we bought a snuggle bed this time around...LOVE IT!!!!! We do co-sleep but you can't really with the snuggle bed and it is too big for the queen sized bed. So the first 4-5 weeks i slept in DS king single, so I could feed Poppy whenever then we moved the cot into the main bedroom, right next to the bed, popped her in there in the snuggle bed and she loves it and has been sleeping through since about six weeks. Great because it is portable, so you can take it wherever easily. But like anything people like it or don't eg: slings....
Go the hammocks!!!We haven't used our's yet but in 8 weeks time we will be able to tell you a bit about it and if bub likes it or not...... I'm pretty confident bub will love it.... if not i'm going to try to fit into it myself and have a snooze

We bought our's off ebay for $149 brand new its very similar to the Amby hammock but a copy brand i think but almost exactly the same. Frame looks the same, height, material etc..... washable material, mesh so baby can breathe easily etc etc
Sara - did you see mine on the weekend? if you order it off the lady on ebay (she sells HEAPS!) i think its free postage too or you can pick it up shes on the gold coast
Pam - yeah they are big aren't they - we have King size bed maybe if we co sleep then hubby will learn what side of the bed he is meant to sleep onhmmm I am so confused.
I love the idea of both of them I could always get both and see what future baby likes best.
I love the hammock creates a womb feel with movement for bub and I love the high wall snuggleness of the Snuggle bed.
I know babies need to feel safe they create nests in the NICU for the little babies out of nappies its so cute.
I s'pose I have plenty of time to deliberate over these choices, from the reports I have read on the hammocks babies seem to sleep better and possibly longer in this (yet to find threads on snuggle beds) and I know what DH is like on little sleep
I think I will just keep an eye out and will see what comes up.
Anymore opinions either way are welcomed, would love to hear from a few other mums who have used the snuggle bed to get a bit of a balance (if possible) so that other ladies considering either option can hear pros and cons for both items

Ok - I am bumping this thread up too see how some of the previous expecting mothers have found these and to see if any others want to offer their opinion.
I am toying with the idea now of brand new hammock or buy second hand - either way i still have to wait until we pass 25 weeks according to DH
Any new opinions welcomed
thanks all

We brought both. The snuggle bed was used twice. It was too big to co-sleep with and ds refused to sleep in his cot. The hammocks I didn't know about til he was 5 months old and we got one then. It was a godsent. It was the first time ds would sleep alone. I would just bounce him to sleep and he would sleep for hours. We bought our's off the same lady as Renstar on ebay for $149. We still have both and the next bub will sleep in whatever she takes to the most. You could always buy both and re-sell the one you don't use.
We co sleep with our 11 week old baby and also use a hammock. We bought a KANOE hammock and love it. Our baby hates to be wrapped when sleeping and we find the hammock cradles him so he doesn't wake himself with his arms moving about too much. The KANOE is bigger than the amby hammock but we looked at both and decided on the Kanoe and are really happy with it. We sleep him in his hammock for day sleeps and then the start of each evening until I am too tired to get out of bed and get him again to feed. Then I bring him into our bed to sleep as it makes the early morning feeds easier. He sleeps in between us on top of the covers in a sleeping bag. We found the snuggle bed too big for all of us in bed at the same time time. However, the snuggle bed is great when travelling and bub is still too small for a porta cot.
I hope this helps.
I brought an amby of ebay for $120 when bub was 7 weeks old, I loved it, my first two settled in there bassinet but bub would scream everytime I put her in it. So when I got the hammock thought if it did not work would just sell it again.
SO SO glad I brought it, it helped dd to settle her self and she stayed in it till 8 months when she learnt to roll over in it and the transition to the cot was easy after that, she still self settles now.
