    Spock's cradle

AGES ago, I don't know if anyone remembers, but I asked about restoring old wood furniture. This was because we picked up an old cradle from an antique shop for $10, but it need some work.

It was in 2 bits and only tied together by lace - so needed to be reassembled and reinforced.
It also need a new paint job, just would involve sanding it back and re staining.

Well we have FINALLY finished. It took so long cause I was putting off the sanding bit (DH couldn't do it cause of his asthma) and I just didn't have time, and the thought of doing it was actually really painful...

But we did it. I sanded it back, and I stained it. and I went to the shops to get all the hooks and bolts it needed to be put back together and DH put it back together for me. =)

so I then thought I would share!!!!

so here we go, my attempt at attaching a photo =P and our finished product =)

(ps. DH took the photo on his phone.)

Gorgeous!!! What an amazing piece of furniture to have - it will hold so much sentimental value to you forever now.

You've done an amazing job - what a bargain for $10!!

    You've done a wonderful job!

Have you checked it's safe to use? I read something in the ACCC's baby products safety book that antique cradles are supposed to be sold with clear labels saying they were not to be used for a baby due to not complying with current standards. It's on their website.

Don't want to put a dampener on the lovely job you've done, but I thought you'd rather check it out.

Looks very pretty, but I was going to say same as Jenifer as cradles and cots must meet AU standards and many older ones will not. Especially the ones that can rock as the locking pin can become dislodged causing cradle to move and baby can get stuck against edge.

We have reinforced it and stablised it (hence the extra beam not stained yet)
