capsules - which brand do you prefer?

    Hi there,

I'm looking into getting a capsule. I haven't seriously started looking yet so I don't really know the differences. I don't need one that clips into the pram as I have already brought a great little pram.

If I can get a light, smallish capsule and easy to clip in and out of the base that would be great. Do you have any recommendations?

I have a hipod capsule from Target and it has been great. Hipod, Unity and Fisher price capsules are actualley all the same capsule with different fabric and badges, made by Britax. As for being light, non of them are particularly light, especially with a baby in there- i never carry mine far, i always put it onto the pram.

The new maxicosi capsule is one of the safest.....they have just released the brand here and they are Europe's absolute best baby capsule brand especially for side impact protection....it is also one of the lightest which is important when you are going to add another 3-4 kilos of baby to the weight!

We have a peg perego which is a great capsule but quite heavy

I have the unity capsule. It goes to 12kg for bub is heavy to carry but my dd was in it till 21months weight wise she could still be in it just at 2 1/2years old. I did conect it to my pram though for shopping etc.

Was easy to put in and out of car.

well I had a look in baby bunting and found the old fashioned version were much lighter. Is anyone using or used one of the old style capsules and are there any downsides compared to the modern ones?

Absolutely go for the old style one! I have a safe n sound unity and it was the worst thing i bought! The old style are still the highest rated seat for under 6 months (the unity only scored 1 star!), they are also very lightweight in comparison to the new look capsules. I had a lecture from a physio about carrying the capsule around, they really are designed to be taken from the car and clipped into the pram, and shouldn't be carried around a lot. My shoulder still aches from carrying DS around in it and i haven't done it in several months now!

One downside is that the older style capsules can be used only up to 6 months, the newer capsules can be used for longer (mine is 12 months i think) so you would need to invest in a car seat sooner. But, you can hire the old style capsules very cheaply (i did this with DD and it was around $60 for the 6 months? might be a bit more as that was almost 4 years ago).

I have one of the old style capsules, without bub they are light as, but add 5kg they get pretty heavy! Easy enough to get in and out of the car as well. I hired mine for 6 months.

Thanks ladies, I think I've made up my mind that I will go for one of the older style capsules given they are actually lighter.
