I'm having my first baby and i know this sounds silly but completely clueless as to what to buy for our baby before she's born in August. We already have bought the main things like a carseat, pram (with bassinette included), another bassinette on a stand for her to sleep in the first few weeks, stroller (when she gets bigger), baby monitor, few wraps and some clothes got given to us. I'm trying to work out what else we need to buy her to get us few the first few months at least. talk about baby brain! any suggestions??
I am just in the process of doing al lthe prep washing for bubs- so i have lots of things on the brain for you!!
singlets
socks
suits (all in ones with feet and also the hand pull overs are good- bonds are great)
i also got a few short sleeved- no legged ones for under the long sleeved ones
I got given alot of stuff- and i i also bought a few things- but i like to go with the more the merrier coz it means your not so dependant on washing in those first few weeks- and once bubs has grown out of the clothes- then pass them on to someone else to make their first weeks easier too!! (or keep them if you plan on more kiddies) The only really hard part is sizing coz you dont know how big bubs will be when its born.. you should be right with 000, (but watch out bonds sizes are out of wack- go with 00 for bonds- 000 for anything else!!) Again going by DS when he was born- he was a bit ealr and quite small so i have stocked up on a few 0000 things just in case.
Blankets- to lay over bubs once they are wrapped and in the bassenette and for when you go out to lay over them in the pram/car seat
wraps, the bigger the better!!
lots of sheets (just going by DS who was a huge spewer- i found having a spare sheet folded over and put under where his head was in the bassinette helped when it came to washing coz i could just change the top sheet and not have to do the whole bassinette
LOTS OF SPEW RAGS LOL (again sorry- just going by DS who was a chucker- little washers are good- or buy a large flannelette sheet and cut it up into smaller bits)

Nappy rash cream in both the normal sort and get some antifungal sort from the chemist too just in case, the first time you need it you need it NOW and will invariably be at midnight when nothing is open.
I like those hooded towels for little babies, keeps their wet heads warm. I had a hairy baby. Still do, its just halfway down her back now ...
Have to disagree on the wraps. Never used mine - we got given dozens but none of them were big enough to actually wrap a baby in. But they were perfect change table covers.
For you, if you're going to BF, you'll need to get some nursing bras (they say to get these in the last few weeks but I shoot up 2 or 3 cup sizes just after having the baby) and clothes you can BF in. Just loose-fitted reasonably long tops do the trick, no dresses or tight clothes. Two-piece pajamas not long nighties (unless they have specific flaps for BFing). You want to be able to do a quick-draw boob when you've got a starvin marvin.
If you're not going to BF or you're going to express you'll need all the bottles and sterilising paraphanalia. Never done this so I can't help you with a checklist
And you can never have too many burp pads/spew towels/puke cloths!
I'm hoping I haven't forgotten anything myself. I have a bassinette and a 2 foot tall pile of assorted sheets and blankets, at least 3 0000 and 000 onesies, singlets, socks, beanies, more knitted jumpers than I could ever need (knitters in the family), a box of newborn nappies and everything else is still in use by the toddler. Oh, and I have some small sized sleeping sacks and polar fleece coveralls (winter baby) and still need to get around to buying a dummy, just in case. I'm quite concerned by it being cold here, it gets to < 10 inside overnight here.
