who uses OPK's and who dosnt???

    Hi all,

I am waiting to O as you may have seen from my last post, This is the first time I have used an opk and I feel like im going to O ( that sounds weird I know) but the opk isnt giving me a positive, im cd14 and have regular approx 28 day cycles.
Do you think the opk's are good? What time of day do you test? I tried this morning ( first wee ) and this afternoon ( yes bit obsessed ) and both where negative.
If im due to ovulate say tomorrow would it be picking it up?

    TIA

Opks are good generally. Most fertity clinics use them to help determine ovulation for ivf and iui cycles.

It is good to do them morning and late arvo. Not first morning pee as LH can build up overnight. Once you see a positive, you will ovulate 24-36 hours later.

    Good luck!

Don't do them in the morning, the hormone they are wanting to pick up builds up during the day. Twice a day is fine but maybe 11 and later in the arvo. I've used them a lot and found them to be really good. You can buy a bulk lot of cheapies on eBay for about $20 rather than $20 for maybe 6 tests. I got my positives generally the day I ovulated. So I might get a pos at lunchtime and then ov that night. I know when I am because I am doubled over in pain. If you're getting signs you might be ov then get sexy just in case

Agree with the other ladies. Do you get any other signs that ovulation is coming up - mucous change, pains, temp drop...? I found I had to rely on a combo of these plus OPK to really pinpoint egg time.

    Good luck catching it!

I tried using them but they never worked for - I had alot of annovulatory cycles and the test line never got darker than the control line. I heard 2pm is the best time to use them

BL - I used to think the same thing about the morning but I spoke to both my nurse and my fertility specialist about this very topic and apparently the latest thinking is morning is best

I did with both pregnancies. The only time I got a positive with my first pregnancy was the month I conceived. The second time I used them I was getting faint positives but blood tests showed I wasn't actually ovulating at all - incredibly frustrating! Then I was put on Clomid and got a line twice as dark as the control line. If I were to go again, I don't know if I would use OPK's...

What do you all think, my basal body temp rose this morning, egg white at 5pm do you all think im ovulating? I am trying o+12 so there is so much going on in my head!!.
I have also only got one lot of egg white and now its gone how long do you usually get it for?

OMG, I had the same thing happen with a pack of digital OPKs I bought - they were 14 months out of date when I bought them, but I hadn't thought to check until the second month I used them! So furious!

FWIW, I never get a true positive with the cheap internet strips I buy. The line gets dark, but not as dark as the control. When it gets dark I use a digital test and that gives me a positive. I got the positive at 11pm at night this cycle. My FMU tests are always much fainter.

GL with the timing. I'm not much good at reading the other signs, so can't help you there.
