Day 16 & no +ve OPK - what on earth is going on???Is it me or the test?

    Hi there,

Just bought some cheap OPK on the net and have not had a +ve result - my cycles are 28 to 29 days long and I am now on day 16 with only faint lines (the packet says the line has to be equally or darker than the test line for a positive)
Is it me or perhaps I did not ovulate??
Ive had other signs of ovulation - dont know why i am even worried DH has the flu and we havent been able to BD over my fertile period ...
Just annoyed that I have paid good money for perhaps nothing??
Ive used OPKs in the past and had +ve results - I am so disappointed if its me or the test anyway GRRRR

Just needed to vent but any suggestions on OPKs would be welcomed.

Keep testing with them, it appears my ov date was delayed and luckily we kept dtd past my normal ov date! Sometimes your body will do it's thing a few days later than normal.

I bought some Lullaby Conception over the Internet and I never got a positive. Fortunately I was using a more expensive test at the same time and they picked Ovulation up.

I used one commercial brand and never got a positive. Swapped to first response and got one. Sometimes it's the brand or a dodgy batch...

It could be either - you may O late or not at all. I never got + on any brand of OPK's b/c I don't O regularly - maybe a few times a year. Keep testing

I never got a positive either on the month i tried them so I either started testing too late or stopped too early. I fell pregnant that month too so I clearly ovulated.

I normally O around CD17 and I didn't get a +opk until CD28 this cycle!! I'd just changed to a new brand of IC opk, so I was starting to get a little worried that they were duds, but my temps didn't rise either (until after the +opk) and the tests worked just fine (BBTs confirmed O at CD29).

I've used both the Oracle Fertility ones and the inpregnancy (ebay) ones and I never get a line quite as dark as the control, but they are close and it's easy to tell the difference between positive and negative when you compare them. I get smileys on the digis, but they're way too expensive to use daily (especially when you use 24 opk in a cycle like I did this cycle!!), so I just use one of those when I get a dark line on the IC.

All of that said, opk just simply don't work for some women (most commonly, those with PCOS). If you're not already doing it, you could consider charting temperatures along with doing the opk for a cycle just to see if you're getting a +opk before your temp rise (ie before ovulation).

Thanks so much for your replies ladies
I was actually going to stop testing from today but after reading your posts I will keep testing just in case.
If anyone is interested I will keep you posted on how I go - that DH feels a bit better and we can get a BD in this
cycle (ha I know its pretty sad - I have heard that BD does cause pregnancy regardless of what the OPK says!!)
I am just how can I say a bit "offended" that I havent ovulated according the sticks !!
    I am silly !!

It's annoying when you are trying to be proactive! I just ditched them and DTD every day or second day.
    Good luck!

its definatly not silly, the cycle before I got pregnant last time I was OBSESSED with the OPK's, I brought them from the chemist and had never used them before after doing 3 of them I realised they where expired!!!! so I rang the chemist and drove the 1hr round trip to swap at 6pm hahaha, then even though I had all the other Oing signs I just wanted the dam +opk and sure enough I got it on the new ones.
Definatly keep testing and see what happens, I hope your DH feels better so you can get your grove on haha

U could try testing twice a day. I started doing that my second month of using opks cuz I never saw a surge and picked it up that second month. I think I must have had a short window of "surge" time. So I tested at 6am and 2pm just to make sure I wasn't going to miss it. I think I read somewhere that a surge can last for only 12 hrs so if only testing once a day u won't actually pick it up in an opk?
