First time using OPKs and would like some advice

Today I used my very first OPK, I know it is to early for O but I wanted to see what they were like.

I know that the test line needs to be as dark as or darker than the control line but what does a light test line mean? Is it ever completely negative as in only the control line showing?

Well I think that is all for now and any advice/experience would be vary helpfull to me.

P.S. If this question has been asked before please just attach the link

    Hi Damprye,

I've only been using them for a month but have spent a lot of time googling and researching the do's and don'ts. So here goes.

Apparently you aren't supposed to use FMU. I do, however and they work just fine for me that way. As for your question, I've had some come up with only the control line. As I get closer to O, the line slowly appears, and gets darker, until it's as dark as the control line. That's when it's considered positive. A light test line simply means it's detecting a low level of lh hormone in your system. This is totally normal. According to your ticker (19 day cycle length) you're testing around the right time to catch your lh surge. Maybe a day early, but hey... why not?

I hope that was helpful, and if not, try googling 'using opks'. Or visit fertilityfriend if you aren't already using it to chart. Also, you're supposed to O approx 12-36 hrs after the first positive OPK. It's normal to have more than one in a row. Last month I had 3 in a row, this month I've had 2. I've run out though so who knows if I would have gotten a third?

Good luck, and happy POAS. hehe

I done mine at exactly 3pm with 'First Response' and there was definately a second lione there but it was not as dark as the control so I know it wasn't a + but it did get me wondering what the go was with the test lines lol. Thank you ForShelby I will give it about 2 days and see if it gets darker, I don't feel like I need to tomorrow as I'm DTD tonight hehe
