I just picked my maybe baby up this morning after through it in the draw when I found the results to be incorrect or inconclusive in other cycles. This morning when I looked approx 20mins after smearing saliva on it there were pebbles and very few (I am ?5DPO) I decided to do it as I heard estrogen levels rise when pregnant and you can get ferning happening when pregnant. Well now about 9hrs later I had another look and saw full ferning. Is this incorrect? Can leaving it for many hours contaminate the sample so its really pebbles? Has anyone had ferning when being early in pregnancy? Any advise is appreciated
Hi Emmy.
They say in the instructions not to read the results after a specified time as ferning can develop and give false results so it is possible the ferning result is incorrect. I had a Maybe Baby and gave up using it when it didn't line up with charting temps and using OPK's. I have read of women getting ferning in pregnancy although I never experienced it.
Good luck with TTC and I hope you get your BFP soon!
I use the Maybe Baby and I've ocassionally had ferning after O. I read that this can happen, but doesn't mean you are preg. It's never been a positive preg for me. That said, I wouldn't count the results after so long - the instructions say not to, but not sure why.
I also find the pebbles look different before, leading up to and after ovulation. I only get full ferning for 1 day (if I'm lucky) and partial ferns for 1 day before and after (sometimes only two days of partial ferns and no full ferning). But now that I can 'read' the different pebble patterns, I find it quite accurate. It took a few months for me to figure things out though, and that was only because I kept track of the type of pebbles I had.
Hope that helps!
I have been using Maybe Baby for the first time this month and I have had 2 positive HPT's. Can't get into the doctors until middle of next week. Am I being silly for not be excited until the doctors confirms a BFP????
Hi Emmy,
I have uses th MB for the last 4 cycles and only had ferning whilst O except the last try.
I would spear my saliva and then go out to the shops or something and then come home and read it. Thats the only way it worked for me as it takes a long time for my saliva to dry 100%. I rang through to the MB manufacturers and they said this is fine.
I am now 7 and a bit weeks pregnant and have had ferning the whole time. some days it was patchy ferns other days it was full blown.
This ferning did not stop from when I ovulated to when I had my pregnancy confirmed which was 3 weeks later.
Goodluck hunny I hope that you have the same result.
Keep us posted as to how you go.
Sending lots of inkdust:
Oh yeh my best friend was exactly the same as me. She is 10 weeks pregnant
I used maybe baby but i have stopped using it. you need a bit of technique on how much saliva u need to apply and there was 1 cycle, i found out that it didnt give me ferns style but my other 2 home ovulation kit did.
I've used maybe baby for about a year. My cycle is completely irregular (average 39 days, but anywhere from 32 days to 60 day cycle).
I've found that the fern can appear a few hours later, but I'm not actually ovulating so I try to stick to reading it by 15 minutes. Also varies with the amount of saliva. I've found that taking my temperature daily has really helped confirm the maybe baby results, as there is a definite spike around ovulation. I've now starting backing it up with the urine testing too - probably overkill I know
Ha ha, that's so funny, I'm doing the same thing this morning - using Maybe Baby as a sort of pg indicator! It took forever for my saliva to dry, and I have partial ferning. I'm at either 9 or 10DPO. What does it mean, what does it MEAN?? Lol. It could mean nothing, realistically. I haven't found that it works too well in detecting ovulation, for me at least, so I'm probably just kidding myself...
Last month when I enquired I got a BFP but unfortunatley had a m/c. This month today I am 14DPO and have ferning but I don't think I am pregnant. I would test but I run out of them. Last time I tested it was BFN so I will know tomorrow if full ferning in the 2ww is because I am pregnant or just a coincidence. Would so love to be UTD.
GL everyone else ttc and thanks for your responses about how maybe baby is working/or not working for you.
Erin - I'm in your boat 9dpo today and have been getting partial ferns on and off since O. I really don't want to get excited, but... you know us ttcers! Any excuse! I often get partial ferning, just thin ones, about 3 days before AF, but these are thick, just like O ferns. And I have no other AF symptoms. But, I have also just been really sick (think it was gastro, but the ferns are making me wonder... see, any excuse! )
So, good luck! Keep us posted with your news! for a bfp for you!
