Just found this thread whilst searching.... turns out girls i just had false BFPs that month :rolleyes: never using those hpt's again!! they're cr@p!
Shelly - hello, i noticed noone has responded to your question. yes it is possible your pregnancy may not show on HPTs and only on a blood test.... i've heard of women here on BB getting blood test results showing positive from 4wks etc yet the HPTs didnt show as positive until they were into their 8th week or so!!! crazy.... but it happens.
I'm really confused! I used Crystal Clear yesterday mid afternoon. I got a strong line and a faint line. In fact - you can still see the faint line on the test....it hasn't gotten any stronger than what it was yesterday and it's only marginally fainter. I'm 3days past due today.
Went to the doctor today and I don't know the brand she used - seemed to have 3 windows in it & was a white rectangle - and she got a negative. So then decided to do a blood test. Now waiting-either tomorrow PM or Wednesday PM
I've had a negative on a pt many years ago when I went to family planning clinic- knew there was something up so demanded a blood test from the doctor and sure enough - I was pregnant.
I really don't know what to think. I have meds I'm on that is not recommended for pregnant women, so I need to kjnow asap so I can remove myself from them and only use them if they prove to be more beneficial for me to be on them than not...you know what i mean there. If I can cope with out them.
So yes - real confused. Has anyone else had this experience? I haven't told the husband yet because I don't want to pre-empt....but I just need to 'talk' to someone because this is beginning to become stressful.
I used the same test and got the same result.
One strong line & one faint line.
Did the test again the next morning & got the same result.
I booked an appt for the next day with my GP (didn't tell DP, as I didn't want to get his hopes up) ... AND when i saw my GP told me when you get a faint line with any home preg test it means that you are pregnant :dance:
She did a test and she got the same result - One strong line & one faint line :rolleyes:
She was telling me I was most likely pregnant( with a huge grin on her face) & I insisted on a blood test (had done at the hospital) and the next morn I rang her for the results ... Yep, PRESTO I was pregnant ;)
I went on to have my 1st bub at 40
About the faint line, ... I still have THAT pregnancy test & that faint line is still there would you believe it AND my daughter is now 21mths

;) I have all the pregnancy tests from my successful pregnancies - including the one done at a gp's office with my 4 year old. I'm a tragic when it comes to memento's. that's why I still have this one and haven't tossed it. I have 3 boys and am turning 38 this year.
I guess if the blood test is negative, I'll toss it and then tell husband.:rolleyes:
I used Pregnow tests- bought 20 of them cheap on ebay. They were very good at showing my negative results (no false results at least) and letting me test without feeling like I wasting money for 4 months. Then on our successful month they showed a faint positive at 11DPO which got stronger with more tests over the following days.
I'd really recommend them to save money and let you test to your hearts content!

I am due today and have done 4 tests in total, one fri (crystal clear) and was neg, 2 yesterday (one neg and one seemed faint to me, but maybe just being hopeful!!) and today i did another test using 'confirm' brand and I DO see a faint pink line..Has anyone used these before?? Any thoughts?? Thanks :)

I'm new to this forum stuff so I apologise if I don't use the correct abbreviations for things. Hubbie and I are trying for our first. I bought some OPKs and HPTs off the net last week but I've obviously already ovulated as AF (is that right?) started on Saturday. Ah well, I'll just keep using the OPKs. Anything to increase my chances sounds good to me ;) I didn't want to buy them off ebay as I'm a bit worried that they may not work so I googled and found a site called Pregnancy Tests I'll keep you posted on my progress. My period was due now two days ago, I did a test this morning but was negative, could it still be too early to tell? We have been trying for over two months now so I am getting a bit anxious!! My period is usually always on time so I can't help but think about it now!!

We took a test on Saturday morning at 5am, about a week after expected period. It was positive. Went to the doctor's on Sunday for their urine test at about 2pm and it came back negative. We were quite surprised. So, took another test Monday around 1 after finding the negative results and the second line was darker and almost immediate. These were both First Response, non-digital. Just to be sure, we went that afternoon and got a digital test and took it around 3. It almost immediately came back "pregnant." Does the time it takes for the results to come back matter? Does a faster positive result mean the levels are higher? We are going back this Saturday to test again with the doctor, but this time first thing in the morning. We really want to be pregnant, and assume we are. Any thoughts?
The tests the Drs use aren't anywhere near as sensitive as FR. Don't worry about the negative in her office, congrats on your pregnancy :D.:
I had the same thing happen to me, except I did something crazy like 12 fr tests before I went to the Dr. After my negative at the Drs he sent me for bloods that came back positive. At my 12 week check he told me that there were several other ladies that got negatives that week when they were pregnant. It turns out the batch of tests they had were dodgy and they hand to send them all back.
Congratulations are in order I say. Get a blood test then there is no doubt.

Thank you for those who responded. We will be going on Saturday for another urine test...though will take another HPT tonight or tomorrow morning. We are pretty sure we are pregnant, but still would like to have the doctor verify it. Thank you for helping us feel better.
Hi everyone. My name is Damien, my partner and i have been TTC for 3 months now. she did a first response test yesterday which showed positive and a clear blue digital today which was negative. We are a little confused now. can anyone help me please? thanks
Hey Damien I had the same thing happen to me when I was trying. From experience and what I've read..you can get a false negative with a home preg test but not a false positive. I'd say go to the doc and have a blood test confirm but sounds very promising!! Good luck, I have my fingers crossed for you both! Be sure to let us know how it goes!! :)
Thanks Jules84. Will let you know for sure. Its kinda a worrying time when your confused, but when the HPT's just add to the confusion just makes it worse. When she tested yesterday it was 14 DPO.:

I am very much new here, so forgive me if this doesn't come up in the right place. I still haven't really worked out what i'm doing!:). I have been checking this site out for the past few weeks and have found it so helpfull. I told myself i would wait until a BFP before joining but... I think i need your wisdom and advice a little earlier.
This is my 4th cycle of TTC #1 (not really trying, but not not trying) since coming of the pill after 10+ years. my cycles so far have been 28, 36 and 28 days. I have POAS a lot of times over the past 3 months-all clear negatives. Anyway, i'm not sure of my exact dates, but going on when i think i O'd (which would make it another 28 day cycle) i think i am day 13 today. Yesterday morning and this morning i POAS using first response and swear there is the faintest line. It definately came up within 3 minutes and i think it has a tinge of pink (could be imagining this part) particularly if i put a torch behind it (i sound like a mad women :redface:) After yesterday mornings super faint test, i was hoping it would be a bit clearer this morning but i dont think it really is (i threw yesterdays in the fire so i would stop obsessing over it! so i cant compare the 2 now).
Sorry for rambling, but it is doing my head in. Just worried it might be an evap line. I don't think it would show up on my old camera to attach a photo. I suppose i should know for sure in a couple of days, but finding it hard to be patient!
Any advice/past experiences with using first repsponse from you lovely ladies would be much appreciated.

Which First response test did you use? There is a traditional stick type one but also an Early Detection one that comes with a big absorbent bit and a plasticky casing.
I tried doing them this time on consecutive mornings and didn't notice a real difference. It was only when I did them about 2 days apart that I could.
Thanks for the reply Kim, pretty sure they are the early detection ones ( i have thrown the packet away!) Big absorbant tip with pink plastic lid thingy you put back on. Glad to hear you dont necessarily need to have a difference on two consecutive days to end up with a BFP. I was a bit bummed coz i thought it should have come up pretty obvious today if yesterday was really faint. Will test again tomorrow if AF doesn't show (and i thought waiting a whole 24hrs after yesterday morning was tough :lol:)

eta thought of something. If you hold them up to the light, often what you can see is the plastic supports at the back rather than a true line - but colour is def promising.

i went to my doctor when my period was four days late. she did a urine test and said it came up as a very very faint positive. she also referred me for a 21 day progesterone in case i got my period. not wanting to get too excited, i did a home test (first response) the next day which came up negative. now, two day later i have my period. so i guess i'm just wondering if i could still be pregnant or not, as i read on the internet that some people may still bleed when their pregnant, just not from a 'period'. the doctor assured me that also her test was very very faint, the test is very sensitive.... please inform me! there isn't much on the internet about positive doctor test but negative home tests.

have you done another test since the negative 2 days ago? Some women definately bleed in pregnancy. hope you get a nice clear BFP when you test next. goodluck!!
Emmy1, I'm sorry to say, but it may have been a chemical pregnancy. It's when the egg implants, but then falls away like a period often resulting in a positive pregnancy test and then a period a couple of days later. Many women don't even know they have had a chemical pregnancy, they just think their period is a few days late. You would only know if you are testing very early, as in your case.
Maybe you could try a few other brands? just to make sure.
Ok so here's the latest... I don't know if I actually have my periods because this would be about the 2nd/3rd day and usually by now i would have a full-blown flow (sorry tmi i know), but i don't; there's not much there at all. so i think i might do another hpt tomorrow morning. maybe i tested too early? then again, i guess it could be a chemical pregnancy tash.

This is a bit of a stupid question, but if you pee a couple of times in the middle of the night, then test when you get up, is the urine diluted?? I would have thought not so it would be FMU, but I did a test this morning and a second line came up but it wasn't as dark as the control line.
I had a HCG injection on Sunday night (1500iu) which I am pretty sure has a half life of 30 hours (approx) so I should have an HCG of around 300 at the moment. shouldn't I??? If so, why was the test line fainter???
I am 11dpo or 9dptdt.

I am not sure how the injection would change things but as long as you didn't drink anything I would have thought the pee would not be considered diluted. Especially if there is a few hours between pees. I wouldn't read much into the darkness of the line, as it can vary slightly from batch to batch

Just read the craziest thing used for pregnancy testing. If you pee on a dandelion leaf and your pregnant the leaves will form red blisters if not then nothing will happen. You leave it for up to an hour. Has anyone else heard of this or tried it.;)

I wanted to announce #3 with a cryptic "the rabbit died", referencing the way people apparently used to test, but now we have actual rabbits as pets it wouldn't be so funny to watch people puzzle it out :lol:

I done a hpt this morning and got a very strong positive within seconds of doing the test. So i made an appointment with my .gp who also done a urine test but it was negative, but because the lines on mine were so dark she sent me for a blood test but have to wait until Thursday for results.
Has anyone had this happen and ifmso what was the outcome. :-)
Yup I did a first response with my first at home and got a positive. Went to dr the day after and after 2 mins she looked at the urine test I did and said 'no no line' but I said I swore there was one so she waited longer and sure enough faintest line came up around the 10 min mark. She made me get bloods and low and behold I was pg. their urine tests are generally less sensitive than the good hpts. Good luck!!

Oh gosh, now I feel really guilty about my last post - one of the rabbits really did die a little while ago :-/

POAS - +ive at home. went to the GP that arvo and got a -ive (according to him i could see a line!) got sent for bloods. and lo and behold i was "with child" :)
If its a store bought test not past its use by dates then its impossible to get a false positive :) so congratulations are in order!!!!
The ones the Drs use are less sensitive than some that you can buy these days so it isn't unusual to have a positive at home and a negative if the dr even bothers testing - most just trust a hot these days.
Also, I'm guessing the Dr one wasn't first wee of the day.
