I am 26 and ttc for 4 months now with no luck as yet. My cycle is a little irregular but averages 32 days. This month I thought I'd try an opk. I tested from day 13 to day 22 and am sure this would have covered the ov. window. Every day I got a faint line in varying shades of pink. On day 18 the line was markedly darker but still not as dark as the control line. My CM seemed promising days 16-20 and we ttc every second day (day 13-24). Any advice would be much appreciated.
not everyone get's a true +ve opk (as dark or darker than control). I never did. I'd get one ALMOST as dark, but def lighter than control and then it's fade back to nothing again. I'd take the darkest OPK as +ve (so day 18) and say u O'd 1-2 days after (which is when they say O happens after +ve OPK) and then recommend testing 14 days after that. If you BD as often as u say, u should have a BFP soon honey! Goodluck!
Usually I am a very positive person but have been feeling a bit down with all the trying and no results. And I know that I'm thinking it's not going to happen as a coping strategy to protect myself from disappointment. But glad to hear that a dark line (albeit not as dark as the control) probably means ov. That should mean we at least gave it a good shot!
Hi there,
I have had the same problem. I got a few faint lines and then a darker line, but it was never as dark as the control line. My ob says that even a faint line is to be treated as a positive, although the manufacturer's instructions say the opposite.
I got so frustrated that I gave up for this month, but might try again next month given that there are other girls out there experiencing the same - my ob might be right after all?!
I also had a quick look on the internet and other OPK brands recommend to hold your urine for 4 hours before testing - I might try that the next time...
Good luck to us all!!!
I've definitely had better results the longer I hold off going to the toilet before testing - 3-4hrs, if possible, definitely gives better results.
I've also experienced different results when I've tested with different brands using the same urine sample, which has been confusing.
Incidentially, has anyone else had problems with the Confirm brand?? This month, it gave me 4 days of positive results, whereas when I tested with the other brands I pretty much only got one day of positives with those brands. Even yesterday, post ovulation, the Confirm test was giving me a pretty dark test line. Maybe 90% as dark as the control line ...
Just interested to hear your experiences. I'm too scared to use the Confirm HPT now for fear it too will give false positives!
Thanks soulmate, I shall try to hold off going to the toilet for longer next month and see what happens!
I have tried the Confirm brand, but only had negative results. Because there are only 4 tests in the pack, I thought they were too expensive, so I switched to LC.
However, a friend of mine used the Confirm OPK successfully and had a "true" BFP on the Confirm HPT.
I know what you mean though about being unsure - I would test twice anyway with a BFP, so maybe get another brand as a back up...
If anyone is interested, I had been using the Discover brand OPK-you get 7 in a box but have just bought a pack of 30 from the Lullaby Conceptions website for the same price I paid for the 7. I had been doing the OPK with FMU. I know very naughty but if anything I think the hormone is supposed to be stronger then anyway and I still didn't get a really dark line. I'll try the other brand this cycle (during the day) and let you know how I go. Yeah, what's with the box being so explicit saying the line MUST be as dark or darker than the control. That doesn't always seem to be the case!
Maybe instead of trying with FMU, how about trying instead say at 2pm and then again about 6.30pm or 7pm? All the info I've ever read has said not to use FMU, so maybe it wouldn't give you an accurate result anyhow??
I tested at 2pm and again at about 6.30pm this cycle and noticed a few differences. I got better results with the 6.30pm test than the 2pm test. I also found that I got much clearer results if I stopped fluid consumption at least 2.5 hrs before testing (the longer the better - 3 hrs is definitely better) and went to the toilet about 1hr after drinking something. That left about 2 hrs before testing and gave a more concentrated sample as I think it cleared some of the earlier fluid from my system.
I also found that the OPKs from Lullaby didn't give a gradual building up to a positive result for me - I really only got one dark line on one of the test days and then pretty much no test line at all for the rest of the time. Other brands seem to build up gradually. Apart from Confirm which gave me lots of headaches showing a positive result for 4 days running!!
