    New to OPK

    Hi Girls,

Has anyone used the Fortel OPK's before? I have them but will do my first test tomorrow. It says to test between 10am-8pm but I thought it was first thing in the morning??

I will do it in the afternoon I think...anyone have any opinions on this?

    Hey Danni,

Thanks for that. FMU - that stand for Fortel one? Do you know why they were told not to use FMU? That is interesting.

bella: FMU stands for "First Morning Urine"

so you test with the urine thats been held in the bladder over night.

    Hi Bella,
Using opk's can be a tad confusing for the uninitiated I agree.
OPK manufacturers generally advise that you don't test on first morning urine - unlike pregnancy tests. This is because unlike the HCG that preg tests detect LH which is the hormone OPK's detect is always present in urine. However, the LH surge which opk's are testing for happens 12- 36 hours prior to ovulation. If you test on first morning urine the theory is that you may get a false positive result - because the urine has been sitting in your bladder for many hours.

I am aware though that many obs suggest first morning urine. So, until and unless your care provider advises you I would follow the manufacturers guidelines.

It is thought that the optimal time for testing is around 2pm. You should test at the same time every day. It is advised that you make love from when you see apositive until the sticks turn negative again.

If you need any more help there will be lots of women in here that use opk's regularly that will surely be able to help.

    Good luck with your journey
