    Only faint positive at 11DPO

    Hi all,

Just a quick ramble/question. This morning with FMU I got a very, very faint positive with a confirm brand test. I'm 11DPO but I usually have an 8/9 day luteal phase so for me AF would normally have been here 2 days ago. My question is, at 11DPO shouldn't my line be darker? I'm really, really worried because last time we fell pg we had a miscarriage, so I am not particularly confident.

    Just after your experienced thoughts

    Thanks x

How is AF 2 days overdue? Do you have a 9 day LP?

I have always gotten very faint positives at 11 dpo, never any earlier. It is normal!

Yes, Maruscke, unfortunately that is my lot in this fun fertility lottery. I've never gone past 10DPO in my whole time charting, this time or last time we tried, except for our MC

Sounds like a congratulations is in order! Obviously the 9 day LP hasn't gotten in the way!!!

Thankyou! We tried for a couple of years which ended in a m/c, took a long break and this is our second cycle in. After so long I'm really not ready to trust it yet.

    Congratulations!

A faint BFP at only 11dpo is all that I would expect. Some women don't even get a BFP that early! Implantation typically occurs between 7-10dpo, so you have only been producing hcg for 1-4 days. It takes a while for the levels to rise enough to produce a dark line on a HPT (although, how long varies by brand). Just because you typically have a short LP, doesn't make implantation occur any earlier. Your tests should progress at the same rate (by dpo) as someone with a 14 day LP.

Saying that AF is 2 days late is misleading and may cause you some unnecessary worry. Most women 2 days past when AF is due are 16dpo and you would certainly hope to see a dark line on a HPT at that point (again, depends on the brand). Try not to worry about when AF was due and just count the dpo. Any line at 11dpo is a good line!

FX they get darker for you over the next few days.

Thanks so much, very sound, logical advice! You are totally right, I know what you are saying is true, I'm just freaking out a bit! We've waited so long, I am finding it hard to believe it might have actually worked! I guess hanging around pregnancy forums for ages influences your expectations of what is normal. Thanks for talking me off the ledge

p.s I've just edited the OP to clarify.

I got a very faint line with DD's pregnancy and was way overdue that month. I had to go and purchase a new test kit, as I kept getting nothing, before the very faint line.
Fingers crossed it gets darker for you!

    Congratulations!

Very normal to only get a feint BFP - I think I was a week overdue for AF, tested and I almost couldn't tell there was a second line

Sounds very promising! Fwiw I've never had a positive at all before 11dpo.

FWIW, I think it is quite expected for us long term ttc'ers to be in a bit of shock / disbelief / doubt when we finally get that elusive BFP. There is a pregnancy after LTTTC thread around here somewhere if you want to chat to women who are in the same position. Congrats again .
