OPK - help and advice needed?

Hello ladies,

I am pretty sure I ovulate on day 13 of my cycle, however as I will be TTC#1 in December this year, I was wanting to start using OPK's in October and November to see whether I'm correct with my ovulation occuring on day 13...

My question is wanting to find out what you thought of OPK's when you started using them before TTC and how accurate they were for you? Did it work and do you recommend them or not? And also which brands available are one's you would recommend?

Hi Pretzel,

I used OPK once I had been TTC for a month or so with no luck. I think it is a great idea starting earlier as then you will know if you are correct with days and so on! We use to try a variety of different days as i thought I knew when I was ovulating. In the end we fell pregnant the second month of using the OPK and only DTD three times that month!

I purchased mine from the lullabye conception website as they were quite cheap and sell packs with the OPK and HPT. When I fell pregnant I gave the unused ones to my friend and she fell pregnant 2 months after using them too!!

I started using them before we were TTC too, but I found that the ones I had never worked. I have never had a positive OPK, even though I know I have O'd from other symptoms (as well as a bfp!)

That's just me, and they were internet-purchased hand-me-downs (although all still in date)

OPKs didn't work for me. (Except as a pregnancy test!) I had to check CM for fertile times.

OPKs have been working for me. I got a pack of 5 from Priceline for $20 and they would usually be enough for a month.

This is my first month charting but so far my temps and OPKs have been in sync.

Hi. I used the Clearblue Digital OPK and it worked really well for me. This type shows you a digital smiley face when you're about to ovulate. They're a bit pricey but I thought it was worth it. I got pregnant after four months, but this might have happened anyway. I actually found that by the fourth month I could read the tests without the digital reader anyway, so maybe next time I'll just go for the simpler cheaper Clearblue version. But for first timers I recommend the digital version which takes any guess work out. Good luck!

Thanks ladies, I got a message from someone as well that recommeded buying OPK's from a site called lullaby conceptions, so I will buy some OPK's from them (as I'm sure it's cheaper than buying them in the stores/chemists) and will be starting to experiment and test with them from my mid next cycle (end September) to see what it shows and whether I am correct that I ovulate on day 13.
