OPKs are they accurate?

Hi All,

New to all this OPK. Where do you get yours and how much do you usually pay? which brand is good and are they accurate?

We are ttc but my af is irregular due to PCOS so may need to stock up on OPK.

Opinions?

I bought mine from the chemist, its called OvuPlan (was $22.95 for box of 7) - BUT ive heard you can get heaps cheaper on ebay etc. - i actually found them to be quite confusing got strong postives, but after furhter investigation when you have PCOS (i have this too) OPK's can sometimes be unreliable as the postives result can last for days (it should only be positive for 2-3 days max) i was getting positive OPK's for 5-6 days which is NOT normal!! - I won't be using them again and will just rely on CM, temps and Maybe Baby to guide me

I love them.
I thought I was ov day 14 like everyone else but turned out it was actually dat 17.... so was all wrong.
Ebay is the best place.
10 - 50 test from about $2 to $25. Super cheap and they work.

Hi, I use the OPK's and find them great! As mum+mum said above i though i ovulated on the 14th day but its actually on the 18th. The only thing is that the test line CAN start to show up approx 4 days before ovulation and when it turns the same color as the control line it means you will ovulate within the next 12-48 hrs so it is accurate but not to the exact day!! I buy mine from ebay (20 tests for $7.95) Good luck babe! Hope you have some luck! xx

Hi there. I am new to this. I used ovunow strips from natural fertility or similar on the internet. They are cheapies. But they worked a treat with my now 12 month old. 1 month was all it took!! They didnt show up the dark as dark test line which they are supposed to, but the line was almost as dark and as a backup I had an expensive clearblue digital to check and yup, they were accurate!! We are trying for no 3 and using the same things, tho this is the first month of trying again I think I am on Day 9 not expectin to have a positive until around day 19 or 20 (I charted last time so know what to expect!!)

We heard good things about "Maybe Baby" so we bought one yesterday It's expensive (about $70) but you can reuse it over and over.

I found maybe baby not that good... (sorry to say).
The ferns were hard to read and if you put too much or too little (can't remember which) saliva on there, It always ferned...
I found the wee sticks excellent.... Ebay has them for 50 + for $10 - $20....
It worked for us...
maybe baby was used for 3 months and couoldn't get consistant results. Now it sits in our drawer. No use now we are preggas!

Ah, thanks mum+mum, that's good to know.

My wife actually has very regular cycles, and she'll be the bio-mum (all going to plan) and she has very regular cycles. We've been charting on the iTouch application, and plan to use Maybe Baby, as well as the pee sticks (we bought them off eBay) and the temperature charting. Oh, and she watches her mucus All a little over the top, perhaps, but we want it to happen.

Congrats on your pregnancy. Did it take long? We're doing home insemination, too (I saw your post on the other board).

I agree about the maybe baby, it was confusing and the ammount of saliva put on it changes results and then you have to wait for it to dry and so on...also I had ferning on D5 D12 D14 and none when I actually had a positive on OPK test (d19 as I ovulate 10 days prior to end of cycle wasnt expecting that one) so glad I used OPK tests as they are the reason I fell preggers so quickly. And dates added up with D20 oculation.

Goodness things are confusing. Goodluck with the TTC.

Hey TWO. You sound like us! I was doing bloody everything.
I have super regular cycles (26 days) and thought I was ov 14 days before start of next period but after tracking with opks realized it was only 9-10 days. I fall preg easy but cos my hcg wasn't high enough by the time af was due it would come anyway. So poor little Eggy had to hang on to a really thin crappy lining. So I'd have what I thought was my period then 15 days later I'd feel preg. Do a test and yep!

Then I'd lose it. Once at 12 weeks. Once at 7 wks. Then an ectopic. But then this time, with one tube and 5mg of progesterone to stop the bleed and lengthen the tail end of my cycle, we fell 1 st go. Mind you, we have a great donor and we were able to insem everyday for 3 days before ov the day of and the day after.
No bleeding this time and my symptoms have been through the roof!

My wife was great with opks. Reminding me and charting results. They were the best and I stopped using everything else.

Now we are just hoping it sticks! We have had 2 scans with 2 super awesome heartbeats but I am so over the top that o could go every week. I just want to know it's still ticking along

Digital OPK's are awesome! I won't be using anything but digital with our future attempts to get pregnant. I tried cheaper POAS type OPK's the second month we tried with DD and they were so annoying! I bought Clear Blue Digital for the third month and bingo, UTD. They are pricey (about $50 for 7 tests) but they take out all the guess work as you get a smiley face on the screen when the time is right. I was charting as well so I had a good idea how my cycles were (they were pretty regular, 28-29 days) which meant I didn't waste many at all. I think they are worth the money regardless though.

We are the only ones in our group of friends so will join a group in Sydney of some kind.

No one knows, except our donor and his partner. And random internet people My family knows we're keen to start, but we're not telling when as we dont' want to be asked "has it happened this month?" etc.

I'm so damn excited. We're hoping to start the end of this month, but depends on the donor's tests (he's already had one round, and all clear). If not then, the end of August.

We'll be the only ones in our group of friends, too, though one of my straight good friends has babies, and our sisters do, too. There are a couple of groups around here, so we might join one. We just have to start TTCing and see what happens. But we're also not opposed to a straight playgroup. I would love for it to happen quickly for us, but am trying not to get too hopeful.

I found the internet ones very very unreliable.. CHEAP but just that.. never was confident in them..

AS i haveb PCOS as well. I bought digital.. i thought for piece of mind and rather then second guessing all the time I bought digital and loved them.. used them with 2 pregnancies and cant be happier and put much less stress on the whole ttc situation.

I have used the First Response OPK and it doesn't work for me. It is ALWAYS a faint line... I gave up and use other other ways! But I think some women got very good results from other brands. Good luck!

I have PCOS, and the lullaby conception OPKs work for me. They are pretty cheap (20 OPKs and 4 HPTs for $21.. and I need that many OPK's with my cycles! haha) I always have a line, but it gets darker and darker as O approaches. I get a positive 1-2 days before I O, which I think is what it's supposed to do. And it's confirmed by my temps. Today's was a bit hard to tell if it was positive or not.. it was JUST that bit lighter than the control line. Tomorrow's test will probably confirm whether today's was positive or not.. if that makes sense. I don't rely soley on the OPK's tho, as I chart my CM and my temps. And we generally just try and DTD every 2nd day.. that usually ensures pretty good timing

Man i am really really doubting the accuracy of these now. I paid $100 for a clearblue easy digital and heaps on Oraclefertility OPK and none are showing anything and im on CD17 already.

So sad =(

I tried first response opks the month I got preg this time round but found them unsuccesful we were doing the deed every day from 12 - 18 days and I never got a positive reading but I fell preg anyways
I had terrible cycles and my naturopath from fertile ground put me on vitex for 4 months and it worked wonders for regulating my cycles.
