Reading HPT after the time limit

I know they say not to read a HPT after a certain amount of time - why is this???

If the test does change from neg to + after the 10mins does this mean anything or is just an evaporation issue??

My tests from the last two days didn't do this change but this mornings did. Its CD27 and pretty sure 13DPO so I would have thought if I was pregnant the line would have come up within the time.

The test was also the forelife extra which I realise have a reputation for evap lines but I've never had this problem so I don't know what I'm looking for.

    Any help/suggestions would be appreciated

Jaspen it does have to do with evaporation lines and the such, does the line have and colour as I think that evap lines don't have any colour.

What I would suggest is try another brand of HPT, then you might have your answer, or maybe go to the drs and get a BT.

    hugs xoxo

I found that when I was pregnant, very early on, a line would only show up after the indicated time. And like I said, I was pregnant. But I don't think by any means that it is a reliable indicator!

    Good luck!

well from that Amanda I'm thinking it is an evap line - I'll give it another couple of days and then see what's going on - maybe I have the same problem Lee - would be nice - although there is a lack of colour so I'm thinking evap. We aren't actively TTC but there is the slimest chance that I could be and wanted to check before I shared one too many drinks with friends this weekend.

Good luck in the TWW! Thinking + and pink for you.

ETA: Have since googled evap lines and definitely think it is one so oh well just waiting for AF now

    hi Jaspen,

i had the same problem going back 2 months, had all the syptoms, did the Forelife Extra HPT and I went off to get my DD some brekky, when i came back to check it, there was a very faint line, so what I did was on the instruction leaflet, I put my test up againt the instructions positive test (what it should look like) and my faint line was in the exact same place as where the other positive line should be. They say if you hold the test away from you at atms length and you can still see the faint line then you are.

With me though, the next day my AF arrived 3 days early, after it finished i still had the preg symptoms, had HGC leves checked and my reading was 2, the doc said that you have to have a reading of 5 or more to be preg, so i just gave in. Didn't know what happened , maybe itr was a chemical miscarriage.

I don't know if my story is opf any help, but I bought the Forelife HPT again today as to me it has the lowest hgc level reading (10ml), and others have 25ml.

So I am goingt to test in morning, maybe I will get the BFP, or maybe a evap line but i am willing to try it again.

I don't know why it is, but I did have this experience with the pregnancy I had between DD and DS.

I was a day late for AF and I did a test - it was negative in the timeframe and I threw it in the wastebasket in the bathroom.

About 2 hours later I was in there and for some reason I pulled it out and looked at it again - it had a line.

Two more days of frustration ensued where I kept getting these lines showing up after 20 mins, 1/2 hour etc - never in the timeframe. Still no period either (and I'm only ever late when I'm pregnant).

Went to the doc for a blood test which came back that I was pregnant - but only just. HCG level was very low (hence the faint tests). Finally after about a week the tests began to darken up and I started spotting. A week after that I was still spotting (would have been 7wks at that point) so I demanded a scan to find out what the hell was going on and found out I had a blighted ovum. So that explained why my HCG was so low, why the preg tests were so faint etc.

Anyway the point of that long ramble was to say that they're not always evap lines, so you need to play it by ear. Good luck!

thanks everyone but AF arrived right on CD28 so I'm guessing it was evap lines on this occassion.
thanks for all the info though - good to keep in mind next time it happens (or doesn't)
