Parenting after Miscarriage or Loss ~ December 09

Oh Spring.. hope you managed to get some sleep!! When I saw you had posted (and what time it was).. I soooo thought you were announcing that you'd gone into labour!!!!! Come on bub.. it's time to make a long awaited appearance!!!

Well.. I spoke too soon I think.. the m/s seems to be getting a bit better, which is freaking me out. I've got terrible hayfever though and it's keeping me up at night, so I'm exhausted! I feel really moody and grumpy too... poor DH and DS. I just can't wait to get back to Perth and to my Mum.. I'm missing her terribly right now.

I have been thinking of you all so much, but just don't get the time to get online to see how you all are, I snuck online at my parents the other day but only had enough time to check that Spring hadn't sprung :lol:. Alan is home until Saturday afternoon & we have all been looking after my niece & nephew & I have taken Alan up to see BIL on Boxing Day as well. It's just been pure bedlam here & then of course Christmas happened as well! I hope you were all spoiled rotten. Alan & I had a $100 limit on gifts for each other & I think he may have robbed a jewellery store because he bought me a diamond bracelet!!!! :o I nearly died & I know they cost many times more than $100 so I felt really rotten buying him the wheelbarrow he asked for :rofl: but oh well, not my fault he didn't stick to the rules!

As for my BIL, he still has 2 arms, but being the time of year it is & him being in the trauma unit, now that he is stable, he has taken low priority so things aren't happening with him right now. It was 5 weeks on Wednesday that the accident happened, so it's becoming really draining for my sister - as you could imagine.

MICHELLE _ Glad to hear that Caitlyn made sure you knew she was around! I love hearing that you have been treated to rain. I"m sure she is hanging around a lot to make sure that Omar is doing exactly as 'she' should be, that's it! I'm guessing a 'she' already! LOL

SPRING _ You poor duck, I hope that you get some lovely rest soon before you are sent huffing & puffing to the maternity ward. I'm so excited for you!

FREYA _ Are you still in Perth? Do you have enough time left for a catch up? Completely understand if not.

LISA _ Oh the dreaded GTT test, what do you mean 'next time'????? You're nuts! But lovely nuts. Glad to hear you are still having 'resting/quiet' time, even if no shut eye occurs. We have that as well, sometimes I make them lie down, sometimes it's a DVD on or sometimes it's just reading stories, but I think it's important they have some down time each day.

BUN _ So glad you had an easy Christmas & what a great idea you & DH catching a movie, that is a great idea, you sound really happy & relaxed & I like that!

WILLOW _ I'm so glad it's not just me who needs an interior decorater every Christmas, I have packed probably half of my kids presents away & I also packed up a lot of the 'older' toys that the kids weren't playing with much & took them up to my mum's place for all the grandkids to enjoy. I actually felt sick Christmas day looking at all the gifts my kids had received. I have Claudia's birthday right around the corner as well which is making me nervous as they have so much stuff anyway. & don't start me on god damned Barbie. Her freaking shoes, skimpy outfits & countless other accessories are the thrill of my kids at the moment. Thankfully they are very good at packing them away cos they are threatened with me putting them all in the bin. I have no idea where this Barbie expolsion came from but Claudia is nuts over them as well. Did you say V is into them? She can come over here & play with ours anytime! LOL

AFM _ I have a battle injury today, we went to a water park up in the hills yesterday with the kids & Alan's sister & her 'life partner' & I took on the water slides & made a very less than elegant dismount from slide to pool & have whacked my elbow a ripper & it is sooooooooo sore! I was a bit worried bout Jess going down the slides as they were scary enough for me but the little vixen LOVED it! She even raced big boys down the speed slides on her tummy! I have my work cut out with her me thinks! Oh & I am getting a hair renovation tomorrow. I haven't had my hair cut since Sydney & I'm sooooooo hanging to get it seen to! YAY me!

I know im nuts and im sure when bub is born ill have my moments about not wanting a third, but in my heart I know im not finished having babies.....

LISA _ Good on you honey for realising that you know that you're not finished with the baby game. I sometimes wish that I could honestly say I'd like to go again, but seriously, the thought has me breaking out in a sweat. I sooooooooo often think of beautiful names & I write them down in my diary, but I know I'll never use them. I know I am very lucky for the diamonds, but I felt really bad, we are having the air con installed next week & we honestly can't afford things like that, especially this time of year, but I"m definitely not giving the bracelet back either! LOL

BEK _ Geepers, AF already?? Can't be! If so, you've been ripped off my friend. I'm still AF free (well I guess I had it once), since Claudia was conceived, but that is all due to the Implanon in my arm.

Hi girls - big new years eve here NOT !!! 11.35pm and I'm on my way to bed!! Boiling hot here in Hobart, unusual, but nice. The whole house is alseep, including Flynn, so I best not be far behind him!!

Checking in on SPRING - your ticker sure is impressive girl - I'm starting to stalk you now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you feeling hon, you must be exhausted up there in the 'real' heat, you pop into my mind OFTEN, sending you sleep and good labour vibes.

I'm declaring 2010 the year to "survive, but ultimately thrive" - am finding the challenges of 4 children to be huge, so survival is a good goal, but thriving is the real challenge for me, because I want to do more than just survive - does this make sense?

And wishing you all every joy and happiness in 2010 - there will be a few more gorgeous additions to our little gang here, and some we don't even yet know about.

Lee - I totally get you on the surviving and thriving issue. You certainly have a lot on your plate with 4 kiddies. I've spent the last 6 months just surviving despite my want to move onwards and upwards. A big part of my personality is about moving onto the next project even before the last is finished lol. But having 3 under 4 has put all stops on me trying to do too must more than just the basics...food, clean house, kids looked after, and getting some sleep if I can. I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel now that Eva isn't feeding as much and is sleep a little more (just a little more my I add). My first project is to move this baby fat and get out and walk a bit.

What I am trying to say is that it is ok to just survive for a period. Be kind to yourself, you've just had a baby and you have 3 others to look after too. You are doing a great job!!!

Happy New Year all. I can't wait to meet all the new bubs for 2010. I am sure there are a few just waiting to make their presence known lol...(not in my camp though, I've joined the No More Babies Club)

I'm very proud to say that we actually stayed up till midnight... amazing!! We just stayed home and watched a dvd but we were lucky enough to watch the fireworks from our bedroom window... god bless our views!! It was lovely. We even lit up some sparklers with Luke before he went to bed (even though it was a bit too light still). It was great, he loved them and keeps asking for more!!

Anyway I'm absolutely exhuasted today and having a few aching pains low down in my tummy, so getting a bit nervous about everything. We have an ob appointment on Monday avo, so we'll just wait and see what happens. Then, only 8 days till we fly back to Perth for 2 weeks... can't wait. I'm not coping too well with this first trimester crap atm.

I've been away for what feels like forever, but I'm back now. :)

Spent just over a week with my parents over Christmas and came home yesterday - good to be back at home and in our own beds once more. Having Sam join us in a double bed is nowhere near as comfortable as in our queen bed!

I'm a bit spun out to realise that I'm entering into my third calendar year as a parent. Not that Sam saw much of 2008, but it's when he was born.

We got through his party - and I found having things work out with his party as I wanted them to helped me heal from our birth trauma quite a lot. Managed to not kill any of the inlaws as well, which was good. Lots of cool presents for Sam... and then Christmas not even a week later and even more presents for him... he's done well! But I know that we'll always have to make a huge effort to ensure that his birthday isn't swallowed by Christmas every year.

I can also report that he walks! We got him a push along walker for his birthday (he got it early) and only just started using it to walk around... and then after only a few days he ditches it and will now walk a few steps without holding on to anything. He still prefers to crawl as it gets him places faster, but he actually WALKS! He now weighs in at just over 11kg... he's got so big! Has a few more words, but not many of them that we can actually understand.

We're currently having issues convincing him to sleep this afternoon - I'd best go take over from DH.

We had a quiet one at home too with a couple of friends. I had an OB appt yesterday arvo and she is very happy with progress and results of GTT were good etc.. but she does want me to have a scan closer to 37wks to check my uterine scar. She did say though if I get to 41wks and need to be induced, vbac will be a no go. So im hoping I come into labour on my own in which case she is glad for me to have a trial of labour... Im starting to feel pretty heavy now and bubs is sitting fairly low.

I got home from hols tonight. Such a long trip...it took 6.5 hours today when it usually only takes 4 to 4.5 hours. Never again will we travel on a Saturday :shakehead:
Sage was sooooo good though. He never whinged once which really surprised DH and I.
I'm not doing so great but won't bore you all with the details now.

AFM - I had a bloody migraine yesterday and still feel like crap today. My head is killing me and I'm feeling a bit down. It's really hard to stay positive about this pg now... I know it's stupid but I didn't get any migraines when I was pg with Luke and the two angels that I lost, I had migraines early on with both of them... so I'm kind of thinking that it's a sign. Although I can't even think straight atm, so I really don't know what's going on. I have been feeling quite nauseous though.. don't know if it's from the migraine or not but I'm praying it's a bit of m/s and things might actually be ok. DH is getting really frustrated too.. he hates it when I get all negative.. he's sooo postive about it all and I'm worried I'm going to let him down again. It's just not fair.. we should be celebrating this pg and I just hate that we can't. :wall:

Sorry for the whinge.. I know I should be happy.. it's just so hard. I'm hanging out for my ob appointmetn on Monday and praying that it helps me relax a little. :pray:

AFM - We went to Alma Park Zoo yesterday. Sara really enjoyed it. Loren was a bit whingy but she loved feeding the deer and kangaroos. Miss Eva has decided to feed 2 hourly again so I am not getting much sleep. Not much happening here except that Sara has had high temps for 12 hours now.

AF didn't show thankfully. It must have just been a bad few days hormonally. :dunno:

Dh and I decided that we won't be having anymore babies and since we've made the decision I've been really sad. I guess it is apart of the process.

We get the 'verdict' on my nan on Tuesday, but whatever happens, we'll be OK. It's sad, but it's not the same kind of grief you are going through at the moment babe, nothing at all like it. I love my Nan and am devastated for my mum, but she has lived a long, full, happy, life and what more can any of us ask for?

We took the kids to the zoo today, they had a blast, L in particular. He was sooooo good, no whinging or tanties the whole day. He really surprised me considering what a long tiring day it is. Gotta go and finish dinner off and have Little Miss's cake to do tonight. Have baked half of it, have one more cake to do and then I might hit the hay and ice it in the morning. She's made it easy for mummy this year, she chose the rainbow cake from the Women's Weekly cake book!

Thanks so much for all the good wishes for my appointment today.. I knew I'd be nervous but I thought I was doing a bit better than I seem too... I crapping myself!!!! I feel physically sick and am dreading having to wait until 3.45pm!! I dropped DH at work today, so I'm going to swing past his work and get him for the appointment. I just hate this damn waiting game and all my losses have been missed m/c, so no sign at all.. just have to wait for that ultrasound image!! I'm still worried it's gonig to be too early and with DS and my angels, I've always measured a week or two LESS than I thought.. so that's enought to stress me out even more. I'm praying this time, for some miraculous reason, my ob turns around and says, yep.. all good, actually you're measuring 7w 2days... instead of the 7w 0 days I think I SHOULD be!! That would just be way too good to be true but I'll keep dreaming and positive thinking!! DH is super, ultra positive and it's scaring me!! I love that he's being so positive but I just don't want him to get disappointed again. At least the migraine that I had over the weekend has started improving.. just a very dull headache now. Proably all my stress and worry.. and this baby stuff is supposed to be so natural... pft!

So.. I've already droped DH at work, done the food shopping and started cleaning the house.. can you tell I'm trying to keep busy - LOL!! I'm trying to remain really positive, my boobs were still sore last night and they've definitely grown, so I'm hanging onto that and telling myself it's all going to be ok.

Mako - thank you in particular for being so supportive.. I know all too well how difficult it is for you right now and I wish there was more I could do/say. Good luck getting everything done today.. there's nothing worse and I'm thinking of you. We're all here for you, so please 'use' us!!

Jayne - not a worry lovely, sorry we couldnt wing a meetup. Things were hectic the entire time we were there; we had no transport and we were sick for about 10 of the 17 days we were there. Then MIL ended up in hospital with bronchitis she couldnt shake 4 days before we left. Im soooooooo glad to be home I tell you.

Feeling very bad, so Im avoiding posting too much otherwise itll turn into a mega vent and I wont bore you all with my silly issues. So Im lurking and reading to keep up.............

kelly - big :hug: sweetie, the waiting game is excruciating. My m/c are always missed m/cs too, so I know hard it is to have faith that all is ok. But you have pg symptoms so, as impossible as I know this is, try to be positive! Will be thinking of you today and I will check in later to see how you went.

Bek - I can imagine feeling sad about having no more babies, even if you are sure that is what you want. It is such a big part of our lives. I know that I only want one more and already I can tell that I will be feeling sad about no more after having that one too!

BW - glad to hear Sam's party went well, and woohoo on walking!!

I am still plodding along, getting very fed up with this pregnancy. I get constant BHs every evening and night and they are really starting to hurt and interrupt my sleep. I had an OB appointment the other day and all is looking well, bubs is well down and looking like a big 'un. My OB seems so relaxed and doesn't even want to see me for 2 more weeks when at around this stage with DD my BP started going up and I was hospitalised. I know maybe I should feel happy about having a relaxed OB this time, esp since I don't want to be induced early again, but part of me feels like I really should be having more frequent appointments now? Aren't they supposed to be weekly, esp with a history of high BP at the end? I am going to pop in for a BP check this week and I guess if all is still ok I will just wait for my next appointment the week after. I am feeling really emotional at the moment, and totally disorganised. We have enrolled DD in holiday daycare 2 days a week for this week and next week to give me a bit of a break since we have no support here and so I can get organised, but my poor little girl cried and wailed out for Mummy when I left her this morning and it broke my heart! I have just phoned and they said she is fine now but I still feel terrible and totally unmotivated to do all the jobs I had planned for today. I love her so much and get such bad mummy guilt some days. Argh, I am probably just being an overly emotional pg woman but all I want to do is cry right now!

Bun - :hug: Hang in there hun, I know all too well how you're feeling. I was soooo over it by the end of D's pregnancy (and I was 2 weeks over which didn't help! LOL)

Well it was my big girls 5th bday today :( She's so grown up. I made her a cake (and there were actual tears this year, man I get so stressed trying to make the 'perfect' cake every year :wall: Pathetic...) Didn't turn out as well as I'd planned but she was happy. I took her to see the Frog Princess this afternoon and she loved it but cried at the sad part (she's been crying at sad movies since she was 18 months old and she watched Dumbo for the first time, no joke. She has a good heart that little girl...) and got a bit scared at the scary parts (and it is a bit scary for little kids in some parts). She lurrrrrved the Barbie bike we got for her and has been riding it all day.

Once again the IL's put a damper on my day but I don't want to go into it and waste any more energy on it.

Hello. Just a very quick selfish one from me to let you know how we went today.

Firstly, I'm SOOOOO happy with the OB, she's amazing! As for the appointment and as I expected, it's too early to know anything yet. Bub was there and heartbeat was a very good 116bpm or something like that.. nice and strong anyway. But as always, it measured smaller than I'd like. Thought I was 7w today but bub only measured 6w 1d. Always the way for me, so not surprising and given my past the OB wasn't too concerned. Have to have another scan in 10 days and will know more then.. so I've just sorted out all the appointments for Perth!! So.. I have another crazy and horrible 10 days ahead but at least then she's confident we'll know for sure.

Just freakin out about uni, still no childcare organised, worried about making $$$ stretch, army is stuffing us around with a new house so we can move back in together, Im still up-in-the-air about whether he is going to stick to the changes we've made as a couple or just slip back into old ways...............Stellan has decided sleep is for the weak in a big way so now Im either up til 1am begging him to sleep or Ry comes and put him down with alot of crying and patting. I can envision severe difficulties when its time to leave him with someone for two whole days a week :( Makes me feel nauseous just thinking about it. Im physically and mentally exhausted.

Oh Freya....:hug: I know you can't see it now but I have every confidence that it will all work out. Might take a while for you all to find your new rhythm, but you'll get there.

Just remember how important this is to you and that you deserve a bit of something for yourself babe :hug:

With Stellan - if he settles for DH (albeit with crying) then I would stick with that. We did that for a while with L if he'd wake up at night. If I went in to him he'd carry on for 30 mins, if DH went in he'd be back asleep with no fuss in 5 mins :rolleyes:. I know other people who've had success with it too. I know it's really hard with DH not actually living with you guys, but maybe he could stay overnight for a week or so and see if that's enough to change Stell's sleep patterns?

sorry ive been MIA the last wk. DH home, and :wall: Love him being here but can't wait for work to start back up.
Had a pretty crap wk. First my milk supply really dropped, so i was giving evangeline formula, whilst trying to build up my supply. Seemed to work, and has actually made her nice and chubby.

So then we also moved Evangeline's cot into our room, she is to much of a wiggle worm for bassinette now. Anyway, all was going good, till sunday morning at 5am, her alarm went off :( I think my heart stopped. She was ok, just in a really deep sleep. I shook her, then the poor girl started balling her eyes out, which made me feel even worse. Haven't been sleeping much now. But on the plus side, she really loves her cot. Ive put Lilli's mobile above it, which Evangeline really adores. She talks to it and giggles non stop :)

Rach - hugs hon, Flynn's alarm went off the other night too, and I'm still shacken by it, he was in a deep sleep too - after you have found your child not breathing, it's so normal to be like this, but I hate it. His little alarm is worth it's weight in gold.

Bun - Can I suggest you don't take on the casual-ness of your Ob. I went to the Ob at 36 weeks and my BP was fine then - but I also have a history of BP going through the roof in the final weeks. My Ob also said "see you in 2 weeks" - and I thought, no way, thats too long. So I started using hubby's BP monitor at home, and 2 days later sure enough, the BP went right up - 180/100. Called the OB who said come see him but that home BP monitors were unreliable. Went and saw him and he got the same reading - so into hossie forf induction next day, 36 weeks! End of story, so I have learnt to not take doctors as gospel!! Hang in there.

Got to go, I have a mobile hairdresser just arrived, ah life with 2 babies, can't leave the house for a haircut at the moment!!!
