    1-2-3 Magic

    Hi ladies *waves*
I know it's been awhile since posting and was hoping now that DS is 5 and at kinder that I can get your help and advice.

DS, while 5, seems to have the attitude of a 15 yr old and 1-2-3 Magic has been recommended and was wondering if anyone else had used this system and what thier experience was like.

    Thanks in advance

    anyone?

I should expand a bit about my problem. DS is quite strong willed and I am having trouble with him listening to him. I know it's fairly normal but it feels like I am telling him multiple times to do this, stop running, don't do that etc.... The only time he seems to listen is when I yell and I don't want to yell at him to do things. So any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I did the 123 magic course a few years ago. It was fantastic, I can't recommend it highly enough.

I've done the professionals training and I reckon its great some people might disagree with the expectations, but essentially you make it quite clear before you start what you expect from your child, and then they know what they are supposed to do... so when you start counting you don't have to explain things.... As we can get caught up in the explanation sometimes when kids are not ready to hear it. 123 magic provides a simple strategy for parents so its easy to remember when you are stressed. But it does use time out - in that you take away your attention and/or send them to their room. Some people don't like that kind of strategy. But you do whatever works for you I reckon its you are struggling, give it a go but read the book or watch the DVDs as its more than just counting, you have to set it up properly so its quite clear what you all expect.

I have the book and the workbook here and am going to go through it. My DD is extremely strong willed and stubborn little girl.

Hopefully it will help us both

It does use a time out type system but it's nothing like Supernanny's naughty step. The theory is that you remove the child from the situation but they're not made to sit still or quietly for a set amount of time, they can play with toys in their room or read books. It's more to divert their attention or calm them down, as the situation requires. You'll find that you won't get to that point after a while.
