Am i over reacting??

OK so il cut to the chase. FIL was getting pee'd off at ds2 and got up and got a wodden stick and told him he would hit him with it if he didnt stop.

I think that he was way out of line. As an adult he shouldnt have done that. ds2 stays with us one week and with his dad the other and if his dad found out i can pretty much guarentee he too would be mad and use it to prevent ds from staying here.Which i wouldnt blame him for really. DH thinks im over reacting. I dont think i am. They could have sent him to his room, there was no need to get a wooden stick!!!

Oh yeah threats of violence are totally ok... NOT! Tell DH next time FIL annoys you, then is it ok to threaten him with a large stick?

If that is not how you, DH and DS dad parent, then No, you are not overreacting.
Could you speak with FIL and give him other ideas on how you deal with that type of behavior?

There was no need for the remark about using a weapon on your child. Actually I get pretty annoyed if any of the girls grandparents discipline them in front of us, let alone like that.

I would be very peeved about it if it happened here, and actually I would have said something too at the time.

Someone overreacted here, but it wasn't you. I wouldn't care who it was, if someone threatened my child like that, they would never see us again. Hell, I'd be getting peed off at DH if he said it was acceptable!

Nope, definitely not overreacting at all.

My dad threatened to smack my DD1 in front of me when we stayed with him back in January and she said to him 'mum said you're not allowed to smack me'

Thankyou. Your right Teni. I am peed at DH for saying it was ok.DH doesnt get why im pee'd. I can talk to FIL but he is the kind of person whom wont care. He just goes....i shouldnt have to put up with that s^^t. That and prob...this is my home blah blah blah :S

I would have said something at the time but i was Getting dd to sleep so wasnt out there Altho i can prevent it by happening again. Ive told DH we are to move out. Saving for our own home doesnt seem so important right now. Im beyond mad ive not spoken to them in 2 days and i dont plan to anytime soon either.

Ummm no way, that is a threat of violence with a weapon NOT on at all, and as for your DH ot supporting you I would be pees about that.
