Proverbial rod but oh the serenity.....

Well maybe not so big a rod but we have been having issues with Iz going to sleep at night, it would take anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours to settle her and nothing we did worked. No rewards chart, quiet whispering, no talking, yelling at her, crying with her etc. nothing worked. She has been sleeping with no dummy for the last week and a half too and that transition has been remarkably awesome but still the mucking around, "I want water, I need to poo, my blankets are off, I want the big light on" etc.
The last few nights I have gone to go to bed after dealing with her countless times and found her curled up in our bed....awww, so tonight I decided I would put her in there straight out and eliminate the mucking around. I told her if she mucked around that I would put her straight back into her bed and she could continue that in there.
Well after reading her story, tucking her in, saying her prayers..... she is OUT.
Not a peep
She has her day sleeps in there with me lying down with her til she goes to sleep so maybe it is just that familiarity. She transfers fine once she is asleep and stays in her room until 'darks all gone"!!

Not sure why I am posting other than to say yay and yep it might cause issues later but for now I am just relieved I didn't have to fight with her for ages to get her to go to sleep!!

I read your post in my bed with a little boy on each side of me. I'll transfer them to their own beds in a while but for now they're warm and snuggly
It's much easier than putting them back into bed 10 times.

Awww Onyx - I just wish I had clicked earlier. So many nights we would fight it out and then I would say to DH , hey she is asleep and then when I would go to bed I would turn the light on and find her in there!! This just might be the way to go for a while and she's such a clever, gorgeous titch that I hate fighting it out with her because it is pretty much the only major hassle we have right now with her (touch wood) so if this works for a while so be it. She will be getting a brand new bed in a few months time when J needs to move out of the cot so that may end up being good motivation to sleep in her own room again. I think the novelty will wear off a bit too when she sees that we don't mind her being in there as well IYKWIM.

whatever works hun... I'm sure she won't still be going to sleep in your bed when she is 10! It just sets a much nicer mood for the night when you don't have to deal with all that before bed!

I wouldn't know, I've only seen my toddler asleep maybe half a dozen times in her life (with the exception of the back seat of the car 5 minutes before we arrive at our destination)

What worked for us in the long run was spending half an hour telling her it was almost bedtime, and she'd eventually just announce it was bedtime and demand we took her to bed. And then scream in her room for ages, which is much better than hauling a kicking and screaming child off to bed. She's never slept in our bed and I've never even considered it, she goes to sleep so late and makes so much noise it doesn't seem like a good idea.

Nowadays she takes herself to bed, demands at least 4 books read to her, and then once we're gone she gets out of bed, turns on her light and plays for ages before falling asleep. Before we took all her blankets away she'd sleep on the floor. Now we have a single quilt wrapped sideways around the cot mattress she HAS to get back in bed.

This is a child who's never been keen on sleeping since day 1. New baby is practically her polar opposite, he snoozes any old where
