I am giving up on trying to decorate AND bake the cake this year - way too much work involved so I need to find a couple of basic round sponge cakes that I can then magically transform into a dinosaur!!:roll eyes:
Any recommendations for a ready made cake from supermarket or should I try a bakery??!!
Thanks for replying hun, I ended up getting some Greens packet sponges and am hoping they are pretty foolproof. DH is sick now so we may be postponing anyway.
Dense cakes are easier to decorate than light cakes like sponges, though not impossible just more time consuming They also stand up easier under the weight of themselves.
Yep, most packet mixes are pretty foolproof. Just don't change the quantities of the wet ingredients at all and it will be fine.
If you want to just buy cake and not bake, to decorate any place that sells a decent mud cake type consistancy of cake is great if you want to do moulding (like a dino)
Or, this is really cheating you can hire some tins that already have that shape from most cake decorating places. A store called Cake Decorating Central comes to mind that does all sorts of tin hires.
the greens are pretty awesome. i used them for DDs party the other week and i even had people ask for the recipe the trick is, if you are using fondant, to use a chocolate ganache between the cake and the fondant.
if using soft icing, i found it a bit easier if you freeze the cake and then let it defrost a bit and then put the icing on. that said, it's still awesomely easy to do without freezing
Cake and other related items has become a menu in celebration. This kind of stuff becomes helpful in celebrating small happiness on a big canvas with smile and in a cost effective way. The decoration of cake should be done according to the occasion.
