    Just wanted to share a pic of my DD's first birthday cake

    This is the first kids birthday cake i've made, and im pretty proud of it

    wow, you really went all out, that's not normal icing is it? looks like royal icing, or something quite heavy, to make the perfectly smooth background. You did a fantastic job, looks gorgeous. well done. i love the red ribbon on top.

    Thanks everyone, I was really proud with how it turned out!

    Its rolling icing (like on wedding cakes) easier to use. The hello Kitty was on DD pj's i copied it, enlarged it, changed it a little (she was holding a strawberry, so i changed it to a 1) and thought the ribbon would be a nice touch

    So then yeah did the back ground, then each separate peice (head, dress, hands, legs, 1) had to be cut out of the icing and layed on. Was going to do the outline in liqurice laces but couldnt find them, so i just piped black icing. whiskers are liqurice tho. eyes and nose are chemist jellybeans (you know the ones!) cut in half
