I'd be upset too in your place but the first thing that came to mind is that he's 14 which is pretty old for a dog.
Maybe his bladder control just isn't what it once was, another sadder possibility is that he might be going a bit senile. We had an old dog who lost her memory once.

I think that if this is a new behaviour a trip to the vet might be your best option.
