I have just brough DD a guinea pig and we have the cage in the gargae.. but its a not a fully closed in garage.
Apparently people in my estate dont feel the need to keep their cats inside or on their own property and I have caught a few cats in the gargae.
So tell me besides leaving a not so nice treat for them to eat what can i do to make them stay away... i dont have the money to hire the councils trap. and they too fast to catch, but i have heard you can spray something that they dont like.. but dont know what that is.
clear plastic bottles filled with water......weird I know but apparently it works!
Just leave them lying around your garage...or near the opening where the cats get in
I've heard of people using mustard, chilli powder etc but I personally think that's a bit mean....if they happened to lick or sniff it could really hurt them.
citronella is known to repel and you can also get some specific dog/cat repellent called get off my garden (in a spray or pellets but for hard surface you would use a spray) that you could use to repel them.
I think there are repellant sprays you can buy from pet shops, not sure how effective they are though. I used to keep guinea pigs as a child, and nothing I tried could keep the neighbourhood cats away. I once found the neighbour's cat eating one of my guinea pigs. They also used to break into my aviary and kill my birds for fun. Needless to say, I am not fond of cats and I think they should be confined indoors by law.
If you can afford to trap them, that might be a solution. But they're born killers really, the instinct is so strong in them.
