How do I stop a kitten weeing everywhere?

We have a new little kitten, he's four months old on the weekend & he keeps weeing everywhere. He has a little tray that he uses about 90% of the time but sometimes he'll just wee anywhere. He's done it on Juliette's little fold out lounge & then this morning when I was dropping Zander at preschool he has gone on the beanbag.

Any ideas why he would be doing it only sometimes & how to stop it?

Is he desexed? What are you cleaning with? Some cleaning agents have amonia in them and cats feel the need to pee over the scent because it smells like another cat has been there.

I've just been using disinfectant, no ammonia products. He's not desexed yet, he's still too little, but he will be ASAP.

Sarah, I read somewhere that cats don't like the smell of citrus so maybe you could try spraying something with a cirtus scent around the areas you don't want him to go...

I had the same problem when my kittens came they home (on our doona, on their little bed)... I ended up just removing the items in question. I know it's impossible to remove everything though...

You might want to consider taking him to the vets. Sometimes when they are peeing outside the litter box it is because they have a UTI or crystals in their urine. If he isn't neutered you might want to neuter him soon rather than later as he could already be marking and it could become habit if he's not fixed soon. Vets usually neuter around 6 month but they can be done as early as 9 weeks.

I agree with the citrus and have another suggestion
Pepper, if u find it on the floor clean the area of course then sprinkle pepper over that area so if he goes to do it again in the same spot he will sneeze and run off
Probably not the best for the kids furniture but will work on the floor
