Was just looking at the Wagga animal shelter's current inmates. I know I shouldn't because it makes me sad looking at all the dogs and cats unfortunate enough to end up in there and I wish I could save them all!
They are absolutely packed at the moment, with dogs/puppies and cats/kittens, as I can imagine every other pound/shelter is in the lead up to christmas (and sadly probably for a few months after). Saw the most gorgeous jack russell cross puppy, he must only be about 6 or 8 weeks old because he is tiny. makes me so so sad that someone could just dump a gorgeous little face like that in the pound, knowing that if no rescue group can take him and no one adopts him from the shelter he is staring death in the face
And even worse is the thought that there are so many more like him out there.

Please please please, if you are thinking about buying a puppy/dog/kitten/cat for your family this christmas, look at your local pounds, shelters and rescue groups first, you may be surprised at what you find, and you'll have the joy of knowing you saved a little life.

I want a dog, and we will be getting one from the pound or an animal shelter. but we are being good and waiting til we have a house =)

but oh i want one!!!!! Ive been avoiding looking cause i know ill not be able to help myself and ill want to get one too soon before we are ready!

Good on you for posting about it, I wish more people thought before they bought one from a breeder or pet shop.

I reckon the Wagga shelter would be busier than usual too with the floods - there would be a lot of animals that ran away during the storm too.

I agree. We are adopting a cat for Christmas. It is an orphan and we were helping in the rearing of the litter as their mum died and we got all 4 at the vet. We raised them, and they are now 6 weeks. I am sending him to my MIL until Christmas..... I can't wait.

Pet Rescue is a great website too!

But it does pull on the heart strings!

I'd love a fur sibling for our fur baby but as long as we are renting I think one is enough....for now!

we always rescued all out cats from the pound...and always took the most wierd looking reject ones we could find, the ones no one else would take! and they were always the best pets!!! my cat who lived for 21 years and only died last year was SO tiny and had a really short tail,she looked so thin and had a huge head! but she was the BEST cat ever! sorry...off topic

Our current cat has so far cost us $1500 in vets bills and she isnt even 6 months old yet (de-sex/fleas/worms/and bitten by brown snake!)....i dont think people realise how expencive pets can be and all the stuff that comes with them.
