Whats the process for going back to the combined pill

I would like to go on the combined pill in January when I start weaning my baby. Can I just start taking it any time at all? Or do I have to wait for my period to return and then take the first pill on the first day of bleeding? If my period doesn't return does it mean I cant go back on the pill? Dh and I are using condoms but starting to find them annoying and we both want to stop.

hi emma,
usually with any bc pill, onewouldstart on day 1(being the first day of bleeding)with the sugar pills in the red section, i am really not sure about how you would go about it while bf, sorry you re weaning.
If by that stage (weaning) af hasnt returned, I would be pretty sure that you could start at the first active pill, and continue from there.
I will check with my boss tomorrow if you like, he is a pharmacist.

p.s
you wouldnt be protected from conception for at least 7-14 days after commencing the pill.

hi emma, spoke to my boss today, he said that to go on the combined pill you would need to have completely weaned your child off the breast ( if still bf can use the mini pill though) no need to wait for af at all, just start on the first active pill and progress from there.
