Post Looking for Mothers Group in Brisbane northside

Hi, I have a 10 week old son, and am needing to escape the house and meet some new people, and also find some playmates for my boy.

I'm in the Stafford area - so if you're in areas like Chermside, Wavell, Kedron, Everton Park, Mitchelton - and you're keen to start up a group then please let me know.

Hi! There is a group called Pine Rivers and North Brisbane Toddler group if this is any help. I have found many others through google as well.

There's the Everton ABA group at Mitchelton, I know there's also some on the Playgroups Australia website. I'm at Gaythorne, bubs is due at the end of May.

Hi, I know you wrote this post quite a bit earlier in the year, but I was wondering if you started a mother's group in the northside area? I am a new mum with a 2 week old boy and am finding it hard to find any mother's groups in the area (I'm at McDowall). Like you, I really need to get out of the house more so looking for any parents to meet up with.

Hi MLC83, unfortunately the answer to your question is no.
I did end up going to that playgroup half a dozen times but the age range of the kids was all over the place. My boy was the youngest, and the other babies were much older and mobile.

What I wish I had done, when bubs was the same age as yours, was to contact the Maternal Health Nurses (the ones at the chemist) and ask about getting into a structured mothers group. They organize them based on the age of your baby, so you'd be joining a group with babies of the same age. I think also 13health might be able to arrange the mothers group as well.

My boy turns 12mths old tomorrow and I am back at work now, I really wish that I had found a mothers group as my friends don't have babies and the only playmates my son has are the babies that he sees at childcare every day. (and those playmates are strictly during childcare hours).

Good luck with your new baby, those first few weeks are very trying, but in about 4 weeks time you'll get your first real smile and everything you went through to get to this place will be so worth it.

I ended up meeting some people through a mums and babies exercise class run at chermside, you can attend from 6 weeks. One of the girls invited me to join her mothers group, which has been great. I can give you the details of the exercise class if you want.
But CK77 says, also ask the child health nurses. They "failed" to mention mothers groups to me when I went for the first health check for the baby, but I'm sure if you ask, they will steer you in the right direction.

Are you working full time CK? I moved to albany creek - we should try catch up again! Milla turned one a few weeks ago. All my mothers groups' kids are turning one around now - you are more than welcome to meet up with us if you'd like - same with you MLC83 if you'd like.

Happy birthday to Rossi for tomorrow!

Until we left for Melbourne, I was going to the Aspley ABA Mum's group. They meet every fortnight at the Chermside Library from 10-12. It used to be on Thursdays, but I'm pretty sure they moved it to Tuesday mornings.

I just loved it. Really beautiful women, great sessions on interesting topics, a good range of ages from newborn to toddler; and I got so much support and encouragement from them. Some of my closer friends came from that group.

Happy to link you up to it, if you're interested...
