    Question BG OneSize Pockets

Just a quick question (probably a pretty dumb one! ) about BumGenious One Size Pocket Nappies...

I'm about to try out my BGs for the very first time today on my 10 week old! However, putting them together, I'm just not sure which way I should insert the insert. As he's still little I know I need to snap the nappy to the small size, and have done the same with the insert.

My question is.... Once the insert has been snapped to be shorter, do I put the doubled-up bit to the front or to the back? Logically, I can come up with arguments for both ways - front as that is where most of the wee goes, and back as he's lying on his back and gravity will be sending the moisture that way.

Hopefully this isn't too silly a question and someone can set me straight so that I can get started on bub's next nappy change!!! Ooooooh, my cloth nappy adventure is about to begin!!!

    TIA

I'm no expert, but I put it to the front too. Extra absorbant for little boys IMO!

Thanks heaps Lee and Celsie. I'll put it to the front too then! If it's working for your bubs I'm sure it'll work for mine!

I assume you put the folded down part to the outside so that it's smoother against bub??

Oh, and thanks for responding so quickly - means we can get started sooner!!!

Thanks Shannon. That makes sense too about the spine. Why didn't I think of that!

Oh, and I only have 3 BG pockets. In fact that's all te mcn I have at this stage. But if things go well I hope to start building up a stash. I am so sick of finding those little gel granules on Liam when I change his sposies. Goodness knows what they are exactly or how safe, but they're not something I want to expose his boy bits too if I can help it!

Yeh I put the folded bit away from bubs too.

Hope Liam enjoys his nice new cushy bum!

    Thanks again Lee.

Well, Liam is now wearing his very first MCN! It seems rather bulky compared to sposies, but I guess that is to be expected - especially with a one-size nappy. I wonder if it will affect his mobility, etc?? It does look nice and soft and cushy though!!

For those that have used these BGs, roughly at what ages did you find you needed to change from the small setting to the medium setting?

I'm not sure about when they change, but my girl just turned 4 months a couple of days ago and the medium setting fits her perfectly.

They do look slightly more bulky but I found when I put her pants on they didn't really look much different.

the little crystals are sodium polyacrylate gel. it starts as a powder in every brand of disposable - except tushies gel free (exxy and useless) and safeties nature nappy - also very $$$$.

sodium polyacrylate has been linked to scrotal adn perineal bleeding in babies, and it was removed from feminine hygeine products years ago for causing toxic shock syndrome.

the material safety data sheet for handling the substance states that people who work with the material should handle it with gloves and if it gets into the eyes it needs medical attention.

but it's perfectly FINE to put it on our baby's genital area.

I knew I was right to be suspicious of the gel crystals!!!

As I only have 4 MCNs at the moment, I've been rotating between them and sposies still, but there's my motivation to get some more MCNs. And it might even help me to get DH on the cloth bandwagon! (not that he changes many anyway! )

gawd i just got BAD goosebumps on my scalp reading that about the crystals.. thankfully i have never had eden in sposies(her Opa helps with her MCN fund, hehe) except 3 of them at hossy when she was first born, they make me quiver.. all that plastic...
nellebelle... we got our first bumg pocket about two months ago and eden has been on the medium setting since then.. so that would be 7 months... cant tell you how early she would have been on it but def for a while...
i have got another one on layby, they are such a great pocket, and the stuffer that comes with it is extremly good...
hope ur having a blast building ur stash... i am so impatient with my layby, i wish it was all paid for already!!!

Thanks Edensmumma. I was just curious as the small setting already seems a bit tight on my boy (amd he's only 13 weeks today!). Maybe he has chunkier than average thighs!

I'm also very impressed with the BG inserts - no leakage whatsoever! I also find them much easier to stuff than the Haute One-Size Pocket (I have one of these). The other nappies I've been eying off are the Blueberry one-size pockets. So expensive though! But being one-size maybe I can get away with getting a couple! I wonder if the BG cottonbabies inserts would fit well in those.

maybe do the medium.. he may be in that for ages.. edens thighs change shape alot, as she moves more and stuff... i know with some of her other nappies she's been in them for 8 months and somedays they seem better fitted than others... but fitting well around the thighs is important as it keeps the toosh lined up with the stuff in the pocket the best and avoids leaks, not that the bumg does that lol

Thanks Edensmumma. I'll have a play around with the different sizes today and see what works. With the sposies I've been using I've had him in "Crawler" for weeks already too (which is the same size my sister's 2 year old DD wears!) so maybe the medium size option will work better for him.

I put it at the front too. Mostly because it would seem uncomfortable to be laying on it if it was at the back.

I had Em on size medium until she was almost 2! But she is on the small size. Then, someone else put one on Liv (at 8 weeks) on the large size & it didn't even leak!! Wow!
