IVF success - cycle no. 3

    hi everyone,

I'm finally pregnant 4 years after starting on this journey!!!

I started my donor search in Dec 2006. I was fussy about a sperm donor because the child will have half the donors genes so it meant it took me 2 years to find a private sperm donor I trusted and felt was "good enough". Anyway I started donor insemination in Jan 2009 but after just over a year and no success I changed to IVF and a clinic donor in Feb 2010.

First fresh cycle - such high expectations as I had no known fertility issues apart from my cycles varying from 4 weeks 3 days to 6 weeks 5 days - but they always have and I fell pregnant with my 14 year old daughter by accident whilst using contraception so always figured I must be reasonably fertile. Even my IVF specialist thought I should have no problem falling pregnant.

First cycle - only 1 embryo and resulted in a chemical pregnancy and then work got extremely stressful with my boss trying to close down the area I manage. Second cycle 4 embryos and OHSS. Had 2 transfered fresh - BFN and then 2 transfered frozen - BFN.

My last cycle (having already borrowed and spent over $10,000 after medicare rebates) I knew I couldn't afford to try again after this so decided to throw everything I could into this attempt. I quit my job and started a new (lower stress) one. I did acupuncture, saw a naturopath and started on CoQ10 enzyme which is meant to improve egg quality. I also changed donors at my IVF specialists suggestion.

And I finally got my BFP in time for christmas. I feel fairly confident that it was quitting my stressful job which made the biggest difference as my blood pressure reduced greatly (in a good way) and the accupuncturist even noted that I was calmer and my colour showed I was less stressed.

Anyway I am now due 1st September (clinic date)/ 29th August (my date).

To start with it felt so unreal... I couldn't believe it had finally worked. I still don't "feel pregnant" and am very nervous about it but also starting to get excited.

I just hope after all this that it sticks around to become a healthy baby.

Congratulations on your long awaited BFP.
I'm sure you will be excited and nervous all the way though this pg, but when you have that gorgeous babe in your arms it will truly feel real!
