1ST ultrasound??

Hi i went to the dr yesterday for my first appointment and he gave me a referal to get my first ultrasound done. He told me to go in a few weeks i am 5 week this week. When is the best time to go for your first ultrasound i want to be able to see/hear the heart beat. Could you please let me know when you went for your first ultrasound and did you hear the heart beat?

Make sure it is after 7 weeks as the heart beat starts around 6 weeks but if they dont find it (which is common this early in pregnancy) then you would be stressing the whole time until you go back. I went for an early u/s and I was 5 weeks and 6 days and all they could see was a sac nothing else so I stressed for the next 3 weeks as they said it could be to early or it is not a viable pregnancy. Once I went for the next scan when I was 9 weeks everything was perfect and it is so much nicer when you can actually see a baby in there! Most of all enjoy it!

Anytime after 8 weeks. I am having a first one next week at 12 and half weeks.

I had one at 5 weeks because of a bleed and they couldnt see a HB, had another just after 8 weeks and you get to see so much more it was great. I'd recommend at about 8weeks

I went for my first ultrasound at 8 weeks and could clearly see the heartbeat, although my little man just looked like a little bean at that stage!
I'd recommend any time from 7-8 weeks

i had my first ultrasound at 11 weeks and 5 days.. it was a fantastic time for us!

I had my first one this morning at 7 weeks 1 day As you can see from this photo you can't see much more than a blob. But this beautiful little blob has a heart rate of 146bpm & I could see it flickering away like mad I couldn't hear it as they had to do an internal ultrasound, but seeing was good enough for me.

It depends on what the US is for. If it's just to "have a look" then anytime after 7 weeks and you should see a heartbeat. If it's for the nuchal translucency (downs screen) then approx 12 weeks is best.

Thank you everyone who posted, It is my first ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy so i think that i will wait until 8 weeks. I can't wait to see my little cerub!!

I had an emergency US at 10wks, but we didn't hear the heartbeat, just saw it!
