Congratulations on the pregnancy! Good luck for the test, at least it's a small needle.

Congratulations! Rest assured you will find many needle phobes on here too (myself included).

I find the best way to combat it is to ask to lay down and if they can use a "butterfly". It's an ultra thin needle with a tube, so you barely feel the needle and also you don't feel the container changes

Go buy some Emla cream from the chemist. Put it on 1-1.5 hours before the test and it'll numb the area, you won't feel a thing!
That's how I got through all needles during my last pregnancy.

Blood tests hardly hurt at all. Immunisations hurt way more. Just be calm and you'll be fine. It's all about frame of mind.

    Re: 4 weeks pregnant

Hi girls, if you want it gentle, a needle and syringe is more gentle with a small needle. A butterfly has exactly the same needle as a vacutainer on it so is no different other than it takes longer cos it has to travel down the tube as well...the emla works but can shrink your veins a little so id suggest only using it if you have good veins...ask to lie down and keep your knees bent and breathe! Its only a small sting when the needle goes in, once it is in, it should not hurt! Good luck, relax and you will be fine! The longer you put it off the more anxious you will get! xxxxxxx

I hope it takes them quick to do lol. I get anxious about it. Thanks heaps though. I'll probably still use the emla as I'm so scared
